Recently, myself and other forum moderators noted that we had a problem member. This person, when privately messaged about his behavior, which some of you might have not noticed, made it a point to copy and paste my message to many members via PM and on the forum.

There are many, many HepC forums on the internet- and there are just as many troubled, unstable people online as well. We, as in moderators, are determined to keep this forum a safe and comfortable place to inhabit. Our goal is to provide support, advice and knowledge gained from not just experience, but from proven medical publications/articles as well.

As with any "community", there are always those that want to troll, looking for ways to disturb communities that are peaceful, cohesive or generally easy-going. Normally, these types of people have been banned from other communities and aren't happy until they find another "pot" to stir up.

Those that did receive that particular copied and pasted message from the problem poster naturally were surprised at what they found in their PM inbox- and questioned it. Which is great- but also, no one knew what was occurring beforehand that led to my less than nice message to that particular poster, yet those that did notify us, did suspect a problem was occurring.

The reason for this announcement is focused on letting everyone know that we are keeping an eye on this forum, even when it appears that we aren't around- we all do believe in allowing others to converse without "nannies", exchange your own ideas/questions and experiences with others without moderators stepping in constantly.

If anyone receives a PM (private message) from anyone that is wasn't specifically directed to the receiver, one should seriously question the caliber of the person who sent it to you. Just about everyone that joins here is sincerely looking for information and support and that is our goal as a community. We also take "confidentiality" in private messages seriously- so if someone did have a question and posed it in a private manner, you would never find any of us, or those that moderate, spamming the entire forum with that message, much less sending it onto other members here.

Also, I would advise each and every person here to be conservative in giving out information to others you've not gotten to know- some of these "trolls", so to speak- are highly skilled at gaining trust and confidence of people. It's happened to all of us at some point in our online lives.

As with everyone on the planet, we all have to find forums and places online where we feel comfortable and that benefits us- and HepC Friends goal is to keep this friendly, supportive and provide a safe haven for all those that choose to inhabit this message board. And, again- what you choose to tell any of us (Lau, Steff, Heather or myself) in private, does stay private.

We do work hard behind the scenes to keep this forum safe and drama-free for all.

Sincerely,

Gail
