Telaprevir Trial Boasts 80% Hepatitis C Cure Rate

I have the medicine in the fridge. I don't want to do this unless I use the telaprevir, and I don't know when it going to be on the market? The gastro doctor said that I would have to be on it for a year, but I think that the telaprevir has more then helped alot of people what are they waiting for to put it on the market, I'm not sure if the other medicine will knock out the virus. I keep going back and forth with this. I not sure if I want to do it, because after a year suppose I don't get svr?

Okay, you have the prescriptions and obviously you are scheduled to start treatment- so considering you can't get on a Vertex trial (which they haven't started another one yet (the next will be a final phase and I doubt you would be eligible because you are treatment naive?) Here's your options:

  1. Seek out another trial for another protease or polymearase inhibitor, but remember- the criteria for these trials are strict- not everyone gets chosen just because they "want it".
  2. Talk to your doctor and tell him you want to wait it out until teleprevir is released (and trust me, this isn't a drug that everyone on the planet can handle- a number of people dropped out on the trial I was on due to severe sides and I can attest, I felt like I was taking Saniflush)
  3. Considering you are going to be on a 48wk tx, you will know within 12 weeks if you are responding, so you can give it a go and get your mind wrapped around this entire deal, make up your mind, so to speak, that you are going to beat this out and just do it.
  4. If you don't respond, you can wait until the newer drugs hit the market and attempt to treat again........

Recent data from a Phase II trial claims that twice daily dosing of telaprevir cured Hepatitis C in over 80 participants.
