Hi Gerald, I wish you both continued good luck and better health on your journey to SVR and Hep Free Land! Here's some good, basic information that should help:
My wife Julia was just diagnosed with Hep C (genotype 1B). She hasn't started treatment yet. We are waiting to see if the new medicines come out soon.
In the meantime, what are the foods (or vitamins) she should be taking that are good for the liver? Thanks.

Hi Gerald and Julia, welcome! Lots of useful information there from Tig56, and I`d like to add a few suggestions too. There isn`t necessarily a set diet which will suit everyone with Hep C, but in general it`s best to aim for a well balanced and healthy diet that includes plenty of fruit and vegetables, and cook with fresh products whenever you can. Try to avoid as much as possible any highly processed foods and ready made meals as they usually contain high concentrations of sugar and salt, hydrogenated fats, as well as other additives. And drinking sufficient water throughout the day to keep well hydrated is a good idea too.
By careful with any added vitamins or other supplements, they aren`t always necessary or beneficial. A good multi vitamin is often recommended but make sure it doesn`t contain iron, which should be avoided with Hep C. If in doubt, Julia should check with doctor whether he recommends a vitamin supplement while she is waiting to start her treatment.
Wishing you both all the best of luck, and I`m glad you`ve joined this forum!
Thanks a lot Tig56. I wish you well as well!
