I have hep c, and I definitely think all sorts of gastric problems are caused by it! This past January I had 1 ft of my small bowel removed! It happened right out of the blue!

smile Hello! Oh, yes, I have noticed my digestive system out of whack for some time now. Can't eat all the wonderful spicy foods I love. I get alot of stomach pains and bloating. When it happens, I drink a swig of Pepto Bismal..seems to help! Also, the first symptom I had was complaining to my dr about pain in the upper right portion of my rib cage, very sore.

its labled as an anti-diarrheal

Not to change subject, and I may have already asked but has anyone had thyriod problemsconfusedconfusedconfused

I take prilosec in the morning, and half a fiber chewable at night. Then is I have sharpe pains I take gas x.
This may not be what you should do. There are some subject I can advise people on medically but this is new to me.
Does anybody here take these meds?

Liver pain causes
Liver pain can result from a problem involving the liver itself, but liver pain can also be the secondary result of a problem with another part of the body, particularly the bladder, blood vessels, or the biliary tract.

If the liver itself is causing the pain, it's usually due to an inflammation of some kind.

If liver pain isn't coming directly from the liver, it may be due to an obstruction of the biliary tract, like a stone. This type of liver pain, also known as biliary colic, can usually comes on suddenly and may last as long as several hours. Discomfort begins in the upper middle quadrant or the right upper quadrant, and may radiate to the area between the shoulder blades or to the shoulder.

Biliary colic is most likely to happen after you've eaten a fatty meal.

Other causes of liver pain include cholangitis or inflammation of the biliary duct, gall bladder disease, hepatitis, and liver abscess. Sometimes, liver cysts can also cause liver pain.

For myself I can say that there were a few problems and I saw a clinical dietician who put me on a liver support diet. It is tailored to your needs and the amount of damage ,if any , that your has recieved. Design spacifically for my needs. Pays to see a professional. A balanced nutritional diet is very important. Welcome to the forum, I have this problem from time to time. When I follow a good diet it usually goes away.
I love finding out how my body works, there is a great book you can get called Hepatitis Lover Disease What You Need To Know by Mellissa Palmer, she is a wonderful heptoligist who took the time to write about the why of our symptoms,
I highly suggest this book. Our diseased liver is in charge of all these jobs, a sanitation engineer being one of them. Everything that passes though your digestive track will travel through your liver. Everything!!!
I was told not to eat read meat, I couldnt get there without knowing why, I was still eating bad then I read this book and now I eat oatmeal, yogurt, boca burgers, fruit, veggies,, it was hard at first, now its just something I have to do.
When I dont I end up in the emergency room with gastritis, which feels like labor pains!!!
Try changing youe diet, if this doesnt work have an ultasound done to see if you have gall stones?

My gallblader was removed after several months of itching, weight loss,IBS,brain fog, jaunticed, the usual fun stuff. The day the doctor removed my gallblader he told me the news. That i had hep-c and a half shot liver before i was fully awake from the sugery .That was 9 years,3 months ago.But the one thing that has stayed with me through the long course of it all has been the IBS .It has been the most consistant symptom of them all.

Hi Sharlot,

As Moocow has mentioned, vegetable-based proteins are much easier for your liver to handle than meat products. Red meat in particular is not recommended, due to it's high iron content.

The link below gives a brief outline about nutrition:

sausages and other "processed" meats are the most difficult for the liver to handle, due to the high fat content. you can get a lot of protein from legumes, such as lentils or other beans, using a meat based broth, thus putting less stress on your liver.

how do you feel when you eat dairy fats? like butter, cream etc?

Upper right quadrant pain and discomfort is common in those with hep c.  Until recently many medics would argue that the liver has no nerves and therefore there could be no physical discomfort.  Now I think that many hep c sufferers have reported liver pain and it can no longer be discounted as the ravings of a few hypochondriacs, (LOL).  I certainly get liver pain, especially when I eat high fatty foods, like sausages.

Hi Sharlot,

I think i would rule out any underlying possible causes, but speaking personally, i know that hep c gave me IBS and from what i have read, it is a fairly common symptom unfortunately.

All the best.

HepC can mimic many other disorders (gastro and otherwise). I've found that some people have been diagnosed with gallbladder problems, irritable bowel syndrome and ulcers when the entire problem was HepC.

Hi,

digestive problems I can't really comment on, but if you're talking pain in the right side, just under the ribcage - then yes.

That can be caused by swelling and inflamed liver as I understand . (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).
