Gidday Chickenbawk,

Welcome to the Forum, and as James suggests, that vl is neither here or there, and the fact that your wife has a vl at all is the condition to be concerned with.  Viral loads are not an indicator of the seriousness of the viral infection, rather a guide to the size of the job ahead.

The spleen can act much like a filter sometimes, and if we are looking for signs of infection we often look in the body's filters, namely the liver, kidney and spleen.  The spleen quite often is an indication of a viral or bacterial infection.

Hi,

Blood from the liver backs up into the spleen when it can't be processed in the liver due to damage. Remember the liver is like a sponge so if the surface is covered by scare tissue blood can't get into the sponge.

Anything above 400k is considered a high VL. I know people with a low VL and a damaged liver, and people with a high VL and little damage.  The two are not necessarily correlated.  I too know people with a higher VL who have achieved SVR.

Mainly just wanted to welcome you to the forum chickenbawk.  I don't know enough about about the spleen/hep-c relationship to comment on it - sorry.  I do know I've heard of members here on the forum who started with a lot higher viral load.

We have been to regular Doctor but now waiting to see liver Doc. Wife has been told this is what her viral load is. From what I have read it's on the low of the high side. Can anyone help with some input on this.Does anyone have any knowledge of an enlarged spleen while having hep c?
