Renee and I had not joined the board yet (I don't think) but this fall, after my foot surgery, I was on my bed. I had this scooter thing to help me since I was strictly non-weight bearing. I called Renee over to watch a cool video of shots taken above earth on the space station. She went to get up and impaled her foot HARD on the scooter. There was debate if she broke her foot.....and it just so happened to be in the same spot on the same foot as my broken foot. Some people look like their dogs....we try to match each other's injuries. At least we've had some good laughs about our health issues. It helps counter the painful moments too.

I am incredibly grateful for this year that Renee and I have been able to share together.  I was reading through some of our earliest e-mails, and I wrote (before we even met in person!) that I was so appreciative of her open discussion about her Hep C.  I *usually* carry a first aid kit with me when I travel anywhere, and she did cut herself while we were doing a short hike to this beautiful area where we talked for hours there on our first date (although being long distance, it lasted a quite a while).  I calmly got the kit out of the car, bandaged her up and didn't think twice about helping her.  I know that my concern when we started to date was that she had not been to a liver specialist in about 10 years.  She had reason not to want to go back, but I wanted to at least get an idea of the advancement and if any new treatments were available.  I was so proud of Renee when she got the courage to go to a new liver specialist, and I remember that first Skype call with her in tears saying she was starting treatment.

This year hasn't been easy for either one of us health wise with Renee on treatment and me having 3 foot surgeries.  Yes, I had three surgeries.  The most recent one being yesterday to have the screws removed out of my foot.  It was more of an emergency surgery. Renee and I have had to alter our moving plans a little bit to accomodate both of our slower paces, but we're still moving in this weekend :)  Renee almost missed her 28 week follow-up because her mom didn't feel up to it....her doctor said treatment would stop if she didn't go (not true but those follow-ups are important!). Thankfully her mom went.  At least when Renee's here, even if I can't drive her the 1.5 hours to her appointment, she can at least take a bus out there whereas where she lives now, she did not have that as an option.  Renee and I are hopefully getting married next summer....I'd say we have the "in sickness (and hopefully the in bad times)" part down pact.  Now we just need to cash in on the "in health (and good times!)"  Renee and I have had plenty of good times, and my admiration and love of Renee grows each day.  I'm excited for this new road, although there will be a time of adjustment as we first start to live together full time.  I hope the remaining 20 weeks of treatment go okay for Renee, and I hope her health is fully restored.  Here's hoping and praying to a long, beautiful life together!
