Hi Sandy,

This debate has been going on for years. The general consensus is that Pegasys (Peg. interferon alpha-2a) is slightly superior to Pegintron ( Peg. interferon alpha-2b). We have had Forum members achieve SVR using both.

Patients who have used both claim Pegasys has fewer side effects. I've only used Pegasys so wouldn't know. This is a link to some of the countless trials comparing the two.

We are perscriped Pegasys over here, I think it is supposed to be a little better, but not a vast difference to matter......

i have asked my hepa, why i am on pegintron redipen instead pegasys, cause i heard Pegasys is tiny bit more better regarding SVR chance and sx...she said it's quite opposite. Who knows, i think both are pretty much same 1-2% difference.

best

nojust received a notice from my prescription plan that they won't approve pegintron redipen. their preffered drug is pegasys. it's after hours for my dr. right now. should i be alarmed by this? are they considered the same drug? is one more effective than the other? any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Redipen is easier to use but you cant adjust the dose and the other is a pre-filled syringe. I have gotten both but redipen was harder to get here in Michigan. I went 2 days over my shot day becuse they couldnt get it in stock. I like pre-filled because if your doc has to lower dose you can do it yourself by just squirting it out to the right amount. Pegasys is considered a better drug than pegintron.

So dont worry about it, and you can go here and watch video on how to inject it.
