If there is anyone here that has prepared Isiscat it's you ....lol I don't know how you can read so much without going batty....this disease definitely causes people to do research that is fo sho!

In fact you probably will be at ur wits end trying to bring the Dr's up to your level of understanding !

Thanks, Wayne.  I originally got the idea of extending tx to at least 16 weeks from your experience, and since we treat at the same Liver Center, the potential benefits and the logistics of extending should be familiar to them.  

I feel like I've prepared as well as I can: found a very good doc and learned as much as I could about the disease and my tx options.  I'll just play the rest by ear and try not to overthink it.  I can't control EVERYTHING, after all.  lol

Splendid idea, methinks. And if they balk at the 24, maybe they'll bite at 20 or 16 weeks. If I read the ION-2 results right, 7/88 cirrhotics relapsed, all in the 12 week arm. Makes me nervous. There's no way of knowing whether or not the extra month of S/O/R was crucial to my SVR12, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I have to admit I've been pretty lazy about really comprehending what I'm reading lately, man it's right there, I just have to stop looking for it to spell it out for me.

Anyway the main thing is that all that are waiting get these new tx drugs ......so we can turn this into the previously infected HCV friends forum !

A lot of people here i'm pulling for here and am excited for them to shout out the SVR to the mountain tops very soon as they all have been so supportive to me in my struggles!

This place truly is the best find for me ever, to get understanding, support, and the ability to share it with others.

Like Huey says we're all in this together.

You guys/gals are the greatest! I wonder if everyone knows how much they are truly helping us!

Duane,

Just referencing the data sheet I listed below, it appears to me that ION 1 was 100% male, ION 2 was 68-75% male, and ION 3 was 54-60% male.

I think Solvaldi is the big killer of this Hep C virus, so even if you did 12 weeks and the Ledipasvir is just a better support drug to it than Olysio,  I really think it'll work at 12 weeks anyway, I mean, I know we are all different, but if I'm a cirrhotic 1a and decompensated  and you are a 1a compensated  I would think you have as good a chance as I had if not better to beat it.

There is always the male / female issue, and hormones may also play a role ? BTW did I miss something?it seems all the trials seem to be with just men? Correct me if i missed something.

 Not to mention that insurance companies are unlikely to cover 24 weeks.

Thanks, Duane.  We actually have a forum member who relapsed on the "100%" 24 week protocol, and real world stats are typically lower, so I approach the clinical trial data with a bit of skepticism.  I'm still happy to take my chances, however, and if I can do the 24 week I probably will.

If it were me knowing what I do (not much) i think i would go 16-24 wks no riba since that was a problem last time, I know your are cirrhotic but so was I and I think the S/L alone is gonna fix you up just right

FYI: The clinical trial, called ION-2, that Gilead conducted for a small number of tx experienced cirrhotics using the Sovaldi/Ledipasvir combo showed that including Riba did not yield better results.  Comments?  The results were as follows:

12 weeks:

Sovaldi/Ledipasvir: 86% SVR

Sovaldi/Ledipasvir/Ribavirin: 82% SVR

 

24 weeks:

100% SVR regardless of whether Riba was used or not.
