I failed everything under the sun including solvaldi.  I begged for 24 weeks and bamo - svr for almost two years now.

Hi malekula,

Congrats on your very sustained cure.

Nearing 2 years (I think)?? Wow.

I remember reading some of your prior posts.

It has been a long hard journey for you and yours.

Really glad to hear you are busy with life and living, as it should be.

You got me all mathematically confused (which in my case is never difficult as my standby is to count on my fingers) -  I couldn't add up what SVR 83 was! I was running out of fingers.

Please, if you will, can you let us know a bit more about the varices, it would help others to know how well people can cope with the "extras" HCV can leave us with - how many endo's you have had pre and post treatment, when the varices first arrived, how things are being followed and managed for you (aside from the beta's), what resolutions of your cirrhosis levels have you found since cure. Do you have any current fibroscan Fscores, or labs to share.

We are always interested and can learn so much from the long cured folk around here who have such valuable experience under their belts.

I really like the sounds of what you are up to and doing! Immersions into the positives! smile C.

SVR-83, guys

However, I have varices in my esophagus, so now I'm lifetime on beta-protectors.

Sorry, wasn't visiting the forum since Alex's death... I'm trying to have full-throttle live: travel, sport, friends, pets and more without thinking about HepC and problems it done to me.

Hope, you all are fine

Greeting and welcome!

With this group you are not alone. Lot's of folks who failed some numerous times only to come back and win with the newer DAA's.

Hang in there and Harvoni x 24 is a powerful weapon indeed. That is the train I hope to board soon. Doctor approved one week ago so I will give it one more week and then make some noise.

You are here and here is a great place to be.

Hi Thom,

Welcome to the forum! I see you figured out the posting procedure about the same time I was sending it to you. There is a lot of information available using the search function located above center of the page. We have a Harvoni Train thread (our group of people on your treatment). I'll provide the link below.

Sorry you had to go through the first round of Peg/Riba/Sov, only to have it fail. Many of us failed a time or two and understand the frustration. You have a very good chance to achieve SVR with the 24 week protocol.

Others will be along to welcome you soon. I recommend starting your own post in the New Members section using that link to info I gave you in the Chatbox. That way you will have your own thread for replies. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

With genotype 1 Hep C, I took the Sovaldi/Ribavirin/Pegylated Interferon for 12 weeks this past summer. There was 0 viral load after 4 weeks. 0 after 12 weeks, after I had finished taking the drugs for all 12 weeks. After 9 months, the viral load returned at 1,496,000. I engaged in absolutely no behavior that causes Hep C - no needles at all, no sex at all, no drugs at all; I did not drink any alcohol. My doctors' only answer is that the cirrhosis of the liver was so bad (compensated cirrhosis) that not all of the virus was cleansed out of the dead parts of the liver with just 12 weeks of Sovaldi.

I am now on the Harvoni for 24 weeks, hoping that the longer regimen of the two drugs - Sovaldi and Ledipasvir - will totally clean out the virus from the liver.

MM, you should call and have them mail those blood work results to you, frame them in a 24k gold frame, proudly hang them on your wall and wipe the glass clean every day with a warm, soft towel. That's my plan anyway... biggrin

MM,

That's great news!  I just read this topic from the beginning.  What a white knuckle ride.   First up to the Happy Undetected Place, then way down to the Scary Ultrasound Stop, then back up to No tumor/No HCC Station.  One heck of a trip.

You're made it and I'm so happy for you!   Be well, and enjoy your hep-free life!

I think yes, at least +15kg for my height. Ultrasound report says "doesn't look like liver fat". So it was "GO" for MRI to be sure.

Hi MM,

For cirrhotics, a degree of portal hypertension is assumed. In your case, it's a certainty.

Yearly gastroscopies to check for varices /portal hypertensive gastropathy are standard protocols. I'd be wanting one. Cheers.

I had an ulcer too. Same image. 6 years ago. The major cause was helicobacter... I lost 50oz of blood and had a transfusion. But my liver was ok, a little bit fatty... Have no idea why they didn't check me for hepatitis. In this case I shouldn't have a cirrhosis and find myself in hcc zone - even old therapies could help me to slow the dragon.

Yes i understand. A year and a half ago this all started. I thought i had the flu or a cold. Very lethargic. Someone walked up to me and asked if i was ready to go.go where i asked. He said the hospital. Why i asked and he said i was pale white. Went to sleep woke up feeling tired. Went to bm and happed to look at stool (as dr oz always preaches religiously) and my stool was jet black. O tried to dissmiss it but was epic in size and color. Was near hospital and my instict was to go to er. I did and it dint taketake 2 minutes for them to call the troops.. the bag of blood was like air. Took me on did endoscopy and had several bleeding ulcers and the first words out after o woke up that you have hep c we can give you a transplant" which was obviously not in the program. They sealed the bleeds: i get endo often take protonics and strictly whatch what i eat.  I still left the hospitail after the seal against medical advice and made the plane back on tour. But this is something we watch rekigiously. Was no vein issue involved for me. Was all about the ulcers

Stay on top of this as it is in the danger zone. But everying is good and stable

Thanks Malcolm!

No, I didn't have gastroscopy, I don't have any internal bleeding, low hemoglobin or any of these problems that can flag some issues with my gullet's veins.
I was asking about.

Even my spleen is so big and platelets are low I don't have any nose or gum bleeding for 2 last months. Even the small cuts after shaving do not bleed much.

Hi MM,

Sorry to read the Ultrasound report, but the contrast MRI will determine whether it's bad news. It shows how important the 6 monthly imaging is for cirrhotics. Ideally these should be done at the same site, so comparisons can be made.

With a spleen that big, I understand why your platelets are so low. SVR will hopefully start to reverse the portal hypertension. I don't see any gastroscopy reports. Have you had one recently?

Best of luck for the MRI. Cheers.

Hi Brian,

physically I'm OK, but I'm stressed with this news...

Tig,
The last in hospital was 17/11/2013 (the date on scan is wrong - it's November) and another one I did in January 2015 (one year later) in private lab. This one I did 8/7/2015.
The doc in hospital compares two images for Nov 2013 and July 2015. It's enough time to develop something. However they forgot (or didn't check right) for my U/S in January 2015. I don't know why... probably the image from private lab wasn't sent to hospital only the report. The private lab has nothing to compare with...

Just had set up my appointment for MRI in private lab for next Monday, the line-up in hospital (free) is for one year forward. My doc goes for the vacation this Monday so will have my results the week of 10 August.

I need some time for chill out a little bit... Going on vacation in two weeks, I hope this will help me. This situation piss me off.. I was thinking it will be the end after SVR for hard fights but seems it goes in the wrong way

Hey MM,

When was your last U/S? Seems like this presented quickly, which is odd. As Gracie mentioned, it's good they've been on top of your care all along and found this quickly. It's early on, so stay positive and take care of business, you know how to do that. Get the MRI and that will determine your next course of action. Keep your chin up and deal with it as its presented to you. Keep us informed when you get some information from the MRI.
