Hi Alex,

Good to hear from you.

The ALT goes up and down more than the AST.  Many drugs, particularly the NSAIDs, can cause the ALT to go up- usually the AST remains normal. As long as it stays below 100 I wouldn't be concerned.

I don't think you're cirrhotic (from memory). Cirrhotics may continue to have raised ALT after SVR, but the GGT and AST are usually normal. Cheers.

Hi Alex, good to hear from you again, and congrats on your 3 yr SVR!  Doesn't time fly!

As Tig said, there could be several reasons why your ALT level is elevated at the moment, although I don't think you need to be too comcerned considering that your viral load is still undetectable.  It is above normal levels but we see much higher numbers than that.  Liver enzyme levels, ALT and AST, do tend to fluctuate anyway.

Good luck with your GI appointment on Monday, do let us know what he says.

Hi Alex,

It's difficult to really know why it has elevated without a lot of history. There are several things that could be responsible. There are medications, like Tylenol, among others, that when taken in large doses or for extended periods, will alter those levels. You didn't mention your AST, do you have that? I would seek additional information from your specialist before doing anything else. In the meantime, eat right, limit over the counter medications like Tylenol and NSAIDS and always avoid alcohol.

Hello everyone,

I'm sure it was addressed by someone before. Can someone advice me what ALT at 82 (normal up to 52) would mean? Just has VL test showing undetectable HC levelsI'm 3 years post tx with SVR (yay!) Going to GI on Monday, but anxious to know before that

thanks in advance.
