Mediterranean Diet Food List

(Please check with your doctor to be sure that there are not specific foods that you should be avoiding).

I'll pass on the red wine, of course, but the rest is delicious & healthy.

... Thanks Tig ...

... meanwhile back at the other ranch ...

Just a short discussion about the diet ... it's the NYTimes, not sure that's a plus, but I found it interesting ... YMMV

When my brain gets straight and I figure out what is hitting me so hard tomorrow with Doctor or in the next week, I am going to start cooking some of your recipes or finding ones of my own.  I have lost 8 lbs since Mid Jan and it is because of eating more fruits and veggies.  I need to lose another 13 and I will be much better fit.  Heck if I could lose another 23 lbs I would be highschool weight but I would be happy with 13.

I think you're right in that our bodies do tend to tell us what it needs ...

Our minds ... sometimes, not so much ... LOL.

Good thing the Mediterranean diet has the "Some Red Meats" clause ... whew!

I am going to have to eat Red Meat today.  I am craving it so bad.  I rarely eat it.  I usually eat only chicken and the occasional pork.  I think my craving is because my body might need something.  Hope it doesn't activate my gout.

Mediterranean Diet 101: A Meal Plan That Can Save Your Life

Once again, a gentle reminder that we should tailor our diets to NOT include the Red wines.

The rest is an awesome variety of very tasty meals to maintain good health.

This guide should help with percentages of food groups and more ...

I think you'll find that the Mediterranean diet fits right in on getting our livers back into good shape.

(Please check with your doctor to be sure that there are not specific foods that you should be avoiding).

I don't eat a lot of seafood either, it's just usually pretty expensive these days but I look for fresh local fish where possible and grill it on the BBQ brushed with a tiny bit of olive oil with some spices added (I like dill, garlic and squeezed lemon but there are many choices), I like to throw some vegies on the grill after, they cook up quickly and taste great. Sometimes I throw some hickory chips on the coals to add that nice smoky taste.

I don't know anything about the Brand but Here's a list of some herbs that go well with fish, I'm sure there are many more and probably better lists but this list looked pretty good. Go easy on the salts and use fresh herbs where possible (e.g. Use fresh garlic instead of powder, fresh dill from the garden or local store etc).

Here's a little ditty with a Recipe for Fish.

Dave

That is some great information and the foods look awesome.  I am not much of a sea food eater but I love Chicken and all the other stuff that I read about for that diet.

Thanks Mike, I would imagine many of these would compliment your outdoor cooking very nicely.

Red meats are a fairly small part of the Mediterranean diet but chicken, fish and you mentioned that you were already grilling vegetables ... supplement with lots of fresh fruits a few grains (breads and pasta), nuts ... use a little olive oil in the preparations and Voila, we're talkin Mediterranean diet.

My PCP recommended this diet which is Oh So Much More than a fad diet, it's a way of living and eating healthy.

As you run into healthy recipes, please feel free to add them, we can all use the inspiration and it's nice to get new ideas.

Dave

Dave, these are really good looking dishes. I'm not sure what the bear in the first photo is looking at. The fish or the person. None the less, the Mediterranean diet is healthy and quite nice to eat. Nice posting!

Don't forget to add some fresh fish to your diet.

A Mediterranean diet is a good one that includes 2 servings of fresh fish per week.
