They do know their audience and will pay to get them. I found out from my hepologist the other day that the fibroscan machine that comes here every three months belongs to the pharma company. They travel around doing these for doctors in smaller cities so they can have the reports to write the prescriptions.

I told her I want my next fibroscan done at a hospital who owns the machine and I'll drive there to get it done (about 2 hours away).

One never knows what they would do - the playoffs they are getting with these medications are huge. And they are curing so need new patients all the time.

Hi Sherri,

That's going to take me a while to get through, but I do enjoy reading the information on the benefits of supplementation when it's supported by legitimate study. I've downloaded the PDF to my iPad and will spend some time later going over it. Thanks for the information.

What have you heard on treatment? Did you get a chance to see that specialist? I know you were waiting on some approvals to get your teaching credentials established in California. I hope that's progressing in your favor. Don't give up! You'll get this straightened out and I believe your attention to nutrition and taking care of yourself will make a big difference.

I always wonder what Big Pharma is up to whenever something like that just up and disappears from the store shelves. They don't want anything too effective getting in the way! At least nothing they don't have their finger on the pulse of...

As I have seen more and more people writing about bad after effects on Harvoni on multiple forums and chat rooms, I dived back into research. I found that it was fast-tracked for approval by the FDA. That is never a good sign with pharmaceuticals. So, with further research, I stumbled onto a product called Viusid. It's an antioxidant and immunomodulator nutritional supplement. It is made by Catalysis in Madrid, Spain. I will attach the one study I found related to HCV decompensated cirrhosis. It's very strange that it was once available in the U.S. via online company, but I found an FDA warning letter to them. Now there is no trace of them or any other way to purchase in the U.S. It is sold in Europe and other countries. I managed to order some through an international pharmacy, so will see how it goes. It isn't that I expect a cure, it is to restore my liver and overall health. I also found info about its use in African countries for HIV symptoms. They have had great success with improving mortality rates, health, and weight gain. The interesting thing is that the company makes the same named supplement for veterinary purposes, for both pets and livestock. Same avenue and most of the same ingredients, through antioxidant and immunotherapy. I can't help but wonder if big pharma has bought the patent to the one for humans.  Here's the link to the study. http://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/1/2/e000140.full.pdf
