Actually she just wanted half for steaks which doesn't leave enough to make it worth while to even make a batch of brine so I said heck with it and cut it all into steaks. Actually need about two large London Broils for a batch of jerky. (More would be better but I better go find a butcher or someone who hunts or this could get really expensive ... although still cheaper than buying jerky at the store (where you have no idea what they put in that stuff ... lots of preservatives for sure and WAY more salt than I need with my already fairly high blood pressure).

What I REALLY want to make is Salmon Jerky and Steelhead Jerky would be like a gift from above! Guess I'm going to have to start fishing again ...

 p.s. Got the rest of the herb seeds planted today, just before the rain ... Basil, Parsley, Tyme & Dill to go along with the Chives, Savory and Cumin I already planted.

Yes, pretty much impossible to not ingest Monsanto but I can try or at least be somewhat aware of it. I doubt there's any beef that is not GMO fed but I am anxious to make some beef jerky anyway ... I bought some London broil for making some and Jo said it looked like it would make perfect steaks so jerky will have to wait. hmm

Yes, good ol Monsanto.... They had a profound negative impact on the rivers and aquafer that traversed my hometown in the good state of Wahington. You are so right, not much healthy goodness comes from it. You've got the right idea going in your backyard! Keep it up and don't forget to send me some of that healthy beef jerky when you dial that dehydrator in!

Ah ... GMO Heaven ... I'm sure Monsanto's loves ya for it Tig, especially after frying those GMO potatoes in that lovely roundup laced, oil (genetically modified canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), citric acid, and dimethylpolysiloxane) ... among other unpronounceable goodies.

... mmm, mmm good ... (an abnormal cell growth garden) ... I'll pass) How Wonderfully Gagnastic!

Hi Syd and SF,

Thanks, this year we also planted tomatoes (cherry), jalapeños, cucumbers, spinach, carrots, onions and have some well established rhubarb plants. Also working on a fair sized bed of strawberries and have a nice little raspberry patch. We have limited sun on our lot (some big fir trees block part of morning sun and a ridge to the west blocks the late afternoon sun so we try to do the best we can with what mother nature provides. More of a symbolic effort (lot is small) but we do enjoy being able to have a few bits grown at home. Working on these is very therapeutic and certainly worth the effort just for that, bits to eat is just icing on the cake or pie perhaps.

We compost much of our kitchen garbage and yard clippings so I think that helps our already very nice soil.

I usually plant a small vegetable garden with just a few things like tomatoes and cucumbers, the odd time something else. We have terrible luck and I plant way too many tomato plants expecting at least two per plant ... so much for a green thumb. It's still to early in this neck of the woods but hopefully by the end of May.. out comes the shovel and turn the earth, add some bags of "stuff" for fertilizer and wait for our cucumber and tomato smile

That area looks great Dave. Herbs and seats in the sunshine sounds like a great idea to repeat around the yard.

I have bigger projects I need to get going on but this will help get me back in shape to do them.

Winter and Tx took it's toll, takes a bit to bounce back.

All seems to help get the Riba out of the system though.

Been working on the Herb Garden, it's small but I can add on to it.

Wanted a nice place to sit as well as grow some kitchen herbs, so far only chives, savory and cumin planted but will plant more tomorrow.

Have always enjoyed doing gardening and yard work ... keeps me busy this time of year.

Yum, hot sause is ALWAYS good ... now I'll have to try that!

Ya Washington state is a pretty long ride in the Kia ...guess you'll just have to enjoy vicariously ... (I know ... just not quite the same).

Berries dropped a LOT of juice and leaked into the bottom try ... no prob, just poured it off into a glass ...

WOW, that is some concentrated, delightful juice ... these are gonna be good!

Just got a food dehydrator and vacuum sealer to dry and seal fruit and veggie snacks etc.

Spent the afternoon preparing fresh and frozen fruits for the dehydrator ... it's drying now.

This batch (maiden voyage) is frozen raspberies, frozen strawberries, kiwis,mangos, pears, apples ...

And BOY, let me tell ya the house smells GREAT ... LOL

These should be great snacks and cereal toppings.
