I agree with James . . . . if you read up on what treatments are in testing right now, you might feel much better about waiting; you could be looking at much shorter tx, less side effects, etc.
If cost is an issue, please look into Clinical Trials, I did one for Telaprevir, even though I have insurance. I got excellent treatment/care, and it was totally free (they actually paid me a little cash at each appointment, to cover expenses.).

Pharmasett has some drugs in phase 3 trials. They are interferon free, and very effective from whay I've read. They could be a total game changer, If my liver wasn't stage 3 and had I known about them I would have waited. If your liver is in decent shape, you're better off waiting ...imho.

Since end of June I have been off tx. It lasted a whole month...Thanks to the Mayo telling me I'm better off waiting till I start staging.Oh the best part is the doc told me I may never have any staging and live life with this demon, seeing I am in the 30% chance range of staging, I guess that's going to make me feel better??
I have had so many life changes this fall, seperated from my husband, moved to a small 2brm apt, started a new relationship and now I wish I could do tx again. Of course I am mainly living alone and have to support the kids and can't risk losing my job.
I am getting help (counsling) but I have been doing a lot at the expense of my liver. I guess I will see if the doc is right. It's sad that I can't get help so I am just speeding up the process...JUST KIDDING! all my meds are doing a great job on my fatty "healthy" liver.
We should just start a hepc lottery pool so we all can just get tx and live life to the fullest:)

Here is a map showing other Hep C Clinical trials in the USA. Other studies are ongoing in other countries, as well.
