It does get better! Especially when viral load is undetectable.
My "fire in the hole" came near the end of taking the Telpravir, and continued almost to the end of treatment, learned to take a lot of baths. Actually lead to a fistula and surgery. Doc also prescribed several (prescription strength) ointments.
Hang in there...

I had my NP from a drug company laughing uncontrollably when she asked me to describe the pain. My reply was in a very serious tone " Medieval" she told me she had been doing Hep work for years and never heard it put so perfectly. Her remedy ,
More water
Bland soft diet
Hydro cortisone/ lanocain inserted rectaly.
Gentle washing ( baby wipes)
Warm soothing shower bath.
I drink over a gallon of water. I have done all the above. I still sometimes get the fire. No two days are the same. Hope you feel better. Brian

I don't miss these days! Once you finish incivek this gets much better. Try your best to manage the side effects until then.

I'm telling you witch hazel is the only relief I've found for the burning! It's so soothing and brings immediate relief. If the burn continues after the bathroom, wear a pad that has been soaked in witch hazel then kept in the freezer!

Question? Has anyone found any sort of food consumption to mitigate the fire? Such as higher fiber? Low acid foods (good bye Jalapenos) Mass quantities of oatmeal or ????

This may sound strange but it works great for fissures "Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream".My doctor recommended this product after seeing the amazing results in her clinic. Not sure how well it will relieve "fire" and "glass" discomfort but worth a try as it seems to protect and promote healing of the area. Good news, no risk of constipation from taking internal meds.

Ouch, Kate, I am so sorry. I know what you are going through. I had hemmorhoids. After reading up on treatment symptoms I decided to get my back end in prime shape before I started. While getting them banded, we discovered that I had had a fissure for a long time. That required some outpatient surgery and about 6 weeks healing time.
Hopefully yours will heal on it's own as is common. But still it's the last thing you need right now; there's enough back end discomfort already.
Sending you healing thoughts as I write. Dave

Hi Joanneh, sorry to hear that you have so much discomfort. I've read that taking antihistamines before bed can help relieve that. Try Benadryl before sleep. Let me know how you feel (:

Update: I have a anal fissure! It probably happened as I was transitioning off Insivek and was on Prednesone. It comes from having a difficult bowel movement that tears the inside of the anus and gets re-injured with each movement. I am relieved to know whats happening, but it almost makes it worse to realize I am injured rather than toughing it out because it's caused by the meds! I have been prescribed an ointment that couldn't be filled right away because of special mixing procedures, so I'll have it tomorrow. So, I'll let anyone who wants to know what it is. Be careful with yourselves, this sucks!!!!

In my experience, the broken glass and sulfuric acid poop goes away a week or two after the Incivek runs out. I was better in a week and "well" in two weeks. It was my opinion that I was so raw that as things returned to normal this new type of pain started. One thing's for sure..... treatment is a thrill a minute.

I think it's more the texture of the poop rather than the damage done to my poor butt from Incivek. I just wondered if anyone else experienced this on the Interfuron and Ribaviron only. It may be a matter of diet and water intake, but I'm always drinking water. Perhaps more fruit and less bread. I have been eating alot of bread lately. Always something on this adventure! I can't believe I only have 5 shots left!!!!

Kate, call your doctor? Have u completed Invicek? How long ago? My fire in the whole hurts too. Doc has me on Prescription suppository. We got to stay on top of these symptoms so Doctor won't take us off the medicine. Didn't u have to stop Invicek early? These hemmoroids were already messed up from Invicek. Let me know what foc says Love, JoAnne
