Yes, I lost one tooth after my first tx which was a washout. Now I am having bleeding gums. I'm afraid to go to a dentist as: 1. I don't have dental ins., & 2. My long time dentist is in prison. I don't know how the hell he did that to himself.

I did a post on this some time ago. A dentist told me Interferon has a direct effect on tooth enamel. This, combined with the decreased saliva due to depression of the salivary glands, the low white cell count from Rx, makes caries go beserk. In 1998, I had a 6 month trial of Interferon and Ribavirin and ended up losing 3 teeth. I was not warned about the Sx then. I have 4 monthly dental checks, brush my teeth 3 times a day, and use Biotene for the dry mouth issues. Plaque build up is much more rapid while on Tx.

I have 4 month dental cleanings instead of 6 months, mainly because I just never got in the habit of flossing. The last timeI went for cleaning was about a 1-1/2 months after start of treatment. The dental hygienist asked me if I had started drinking alot of coffee or wine or something, because my plaque and such was noticibly worse than before.
I now use Biotene oral rinse and tooth paste , seems to help the dry mouth problem; of course- all the water you can possibly drink is a big plus.

I have had my post TX cleaning and check-up. They didn't find anything of concern except for my usual problems, mainly pre-existing gum disease. That didn't get any better or worse. Did have a cracked molar with its filling partially gone. Don't think that was related to TX unless I was grinding my teeth more.

try a mouthwash called Peroxyl by Colgate - seems to work pretty well as far as mouth sores, sore gums

Hey Alan
I've been putting that off as well. I think a cleaning would be painful but I can be a baby about my teeth. There are several sx that I am sure I was aware of going in but forgot.

The drugs themselves might not cause the tooth trouble directly, but the dry mouth and receding gums that come from the meds will really hurt your teeth. Some folks are using one of the mouth wetting products, and most of us are brushing more often and keeping drinking water handy at all times. I have not been brave enough to go see the dentist. It is going to be a disaster. Alan

Hi all. I am wondering if anyone has had any issues with triple therapy and their teeth. I am slated for expensive dental work to replace teeth with bridges. The crowns are expensive and will be placed over currently healthy teeth. My mom had extensive tooth damage due to chemotherapy for cancer. I haven't found anything that mentions tooth damage due to interferon/ribivirin/incivek - vectrelis. Anyone experience tooth damage?
