Although interferon has a half-life of only 8 hours, pegylation increases this to at least 80 hours (range 60-180). There is a wide patient variation. There is no problem changing injection days +/- 1 day.

I think that with the interferon it's 1/2 life is over 168 hours so after a week you still have active parts of the dose doing their job. All chemicals have 1/2 lives but the interferon is especially long. I may be wrong and maybe Malcolm will check in and correct me or verify. Has to do with the way the body absorbs, retains and eliminates the chemical. So when you inject after a week your body still has active interferon.

Oh good! That will really help with Thanksgiving this year. I don't want to wait any longer to start than I have to, or else I would wait until after the holidays to begin at this point, but my only neice is getting married the end of June and my daughter is in it and it is 6 hours away and I want to be done by then (I have genotype 3, so treatment is suppose to be 6 months). I am hoping I can time everything around all of these events. But if not...treatment comes first.
But this will help a lot! I will of course let my doctor know my plan, but good to know it is an option.
THANKS!

I received the same info as krowdog. You have a window of plus, minus one day from your injection day of the prior week to administer your next injection.

I was told by Walgreens Infusion services, who dispensed my Pegasys, that 1 day, plus or minus, was fine. (I had to wait one day when they were closed last Thankgiving).
This is the only info I could find on the Pegasys information Page:
(Quoted)
If you miss your dose: If you remember within 2 days of when you should have taken PEGASYS, give yourself an injection of PEGASYS as soon as you remember. Take your next dose on the day you would usually take it.

I am REALLY hoping to get started next month on treatment. I have to do a month of iron therapy to get my iron levels up before starting (I have a long history of low iron).
I thought I would be on treatment already, but after going through several test to see if there were any problems causing my low iron other than my long history of iron...it seems like the doctor is welling to let me start treatment if my iron levels are OK at the end of the month (which they should be).
Sooooooooo my question.........Thankgiving is next month and we have always had family come to visit and stay with us until Saturday. Also my Daughter has a doctor's appointment in December on a Saturday that is 4 hours away (a specialist). So could I start treatment where I take my injections on Saturday nights until these two things have passed (third week of December) and then move my injection day back one day to Friday night which I would really prefer overall except for those two events (my daughter only goes to this doctor once a year for follow up, so she won't have to to back until next December).
Is this alright to do, or will it mess me up or cause problems with my treatment?
