Hi Uval, prednisone and prednisolone are immunosupressants. It is thought that these cause elevation of VL, increased viral activity and accelerate liver fibrosis. Some researchers think short courses of these steroids are OK. In general, anything that decreases our immune response should be avoided in chronic HCV.

Silly question - why are prednisolon and similar hormones contraindicated  for allergy treatment?

Thanks Malcolm for the comprehensive answer. We are forced to use prednisolon to prevent therapy derailment on 35th week. Try to limit the 5 day course only. I hope this will not lead to virus return after 28 UND weeks. Thanks again.
