Yes I had planed it for a long time before by using a anti-depressant/smoking cessation drug Wellbutrin. I have quit before as well for a year and never quit trying I guess. I got it craving down to 1 or 2 drags on 1 per day and then just stopped 2 weeks ago. I had used Champix the first time I quit but you some time have anger issues on it as well as the battling the Riba rage. My drug plan covers it as an anti depressant. Since most doctors would sooner see you on an anti depressant before you start therapy it kills two ills with 1 pill. Considering how sick you will most likely feel during treatment and the lack of desire to fulfill the addiction craving because of the drug Wellbutrin makes it a no brainier to at least try.

I had planned to quit smoking before treatment, and I've cut down, but I'm still smoking at least a few cigarettes a day. My doc knows and seems fairly unconcerned, so I'm not beating myself up over it. I am nearly ready to quit though. I have a supply of the patch. :)

Tx needs healthy body to do its best job. I had stop smoking for 11 years and started playing w them Again. Smoked on and off for next 7 years. I quit completely 3 months before starting tx. I can't imagine doing tx and smoking. I would feel terrible! I hope to NEVER EVER think I can just smoke one. I never want to smoke again. Please stop before tx, u need all strength You have to get well.

I quit about 3 months before tx, although it wasn't related to tx, just sick and tired of it one more time. Three months in itself is a long for me to stay quit, but just didn't make sense to start again during tx. Its now been 17 months without tobacco. I chewed nicotine gum throughout tx and have only been off all nicotine for 4 months, the first time since I was 12. While I don't recommend picking up nicotine gum, it does eliminate that bad taste folks complain about.

I sort of did. I actually got a scrip for Champix/Chantix last Feb/march b4 Tx started. I took it for 3 weeks until the urge was gone then stopped the meds. After that I was smoking but only inhaling 1 or 2 puffs per smoke. I started Tx in July and the taste for it just disappeared. Haven't had one since. Using Champix/Chantix was the easiest quitting I'd ever done. The Sx can be extreme so I cut the total time right down. It worked anyway.

Has anyone quit smoking as a result of treatment? Just curious.
