'Promacta' or elthrombopag, has been used since 2008. It's main use is in HCV cirrhosis, or in patients with HCV who are having Peg. treatment. It is very successful in 'growing' platelets, and it has allowed patients to stay on Peg. Rx.
The liver toxicity is well known and will be closely monitored. The benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. Don't worry, your doc will monitor all this.

I was taken off treatment Jan.18th,My blood platelets droped to 9,000 and had to be transfused with 6 units.
I have been undetectable on week 12 ,and am on a 48 week treatment plan...still a long to go. Doctor put me on a med called "promacta"25MG twice a day. it is suposed to grow platelets, If this works they will continue treatment,if not i'm done. it already been 3 weeks off treatment , very concerned.
Anyway this Promacta is not good for the liver, side affects say's can damage to liver, cause yellowing of eyes and skin and even death. Has any one heard of or used this drug. I'm not to thrilled right now but really want to stay on treatment.
I should get my viral load test results back tomorrow.hoping for the best.
