I had my EOT gastroscopy today. As I have had 12 of these over the last 20 years, I like to enjoy them. This means no sedation, just a spray to the back of the throat, swallow the tube and away we go. You get a running commentary from the doctor, you get to see your oesophagus, stomach and duodenum in glorious colour on the big monitor, and you get an instant report. When it's all over, you get your BP and pulse taken twice, then you can go home, and even drive your car. Beats hanging around in a Recovery Room for 3 hours and waiting to be picked up, and feeling all 'druggy'. I've had my last 3 done like this, and even had one on the way to work, back in 2003.

Try it- seriously.

By the way, the exam. was normal. Still no varices, which makes me happy

I haven`t heard anyone say they actually enjoy having their endoscopy done before... although it does make perfectly good sense to avoid sedation when you explain it like that!
