Treatment affects us in different ways. If caffeine and Riba don't mix for you, give up the coffee for a while. Once I started the Victrelis, my taste buds changed and I developed the metallic taste in the mouth (dysgeusia). Coffee tasted dreadful so I gave it up. You'll soon find out what works best for you.
Anxiety is natural when you're starting such an intensive treatment. You may not even be aware of it, but anxiety and depression are extremely common in HCV , particularly when on treatment. Talk to your doctor if you think this is becoming an issue. Cheers.

Hi Rachel,
I don't know if the caffine affects you different during treatment but mild anxiety is listed as a sx of interferon. I didn't think the interferon was causing me any real side effects at first but the combination of it, the riba, and I am also on Incivek...certainly do at different times.
I quit drinking caffeine a while after treatment except every now and then because the Doctor one of the most important things during treatment was to stay hydrated. I also drink green tea but have tried to slow down on both during treatment.
Good luck with your treatment

The ribavirin made me feel strange for a long time. Now I am entering into my 5th month of treatment (just completed month 4th) and it doesn't have that same effect on me anymore. But it did for at least 3 months. I didn't drive after taking it for those 3 months because I could tell I was not quite right. But now I will drive. My nurse told me it would get better, but I was starting to think it never would...but she said after 3 months things would get better, and sure enough during the 4th month I seem to be more used to it (and no reduction in meds, so that isn't why, I must have just got used to it). NOW I will say, I am still VERY tired and VERY thirsty all the time. Those two things have not gone away.

This morning after I took my ribavirn and drank some coffee I had a huge speeding feeling I never felt before. Felt almost like an anxety attack. Does caffine affect you different while on treatment?

Hi Rachel, some people find the ribavirin makes them feel like that anyway, so maybe it was the riba combined with the coffee that gave you such a rush. The meds effect people differently, and if it`s making you feel like that it`s probably best to limit your caffeine intake while you`re on tx. Also, try not to take your last dose of ribavirin too late in the day either, some people find it keeps them awake at night, and insomnia can sometimes be a problem anyway as tx goes on.
