thanks kellie  And since I mentioned telpaprevir, my further research shows 56% users get rash during tx.   also see phase III stats from boceprevir state those with undetectable HCV RNA in wks8- 24 received short therapy (28 weeks total).   If this correct and I'm undetected (ya right) I'd feel more secure to stop tx w/Pega + Riba prior to wk 48.      as grandma would say  I'll see y'all in church

I'm on week 15 of the triple tx w/ Incivik. The rash I got from the Incivik was incredibly terrible. Miserable. The worst part of the rash lasted about 4 weeks for me, then it mysteriously went away in the 8th week. After that my face & body started to puff out. Then the nausea set in at week 10 & they took me off the Incivik 10 days early from the full 12 weeks. It's been tough, and I'm UND and have an excellent chance of svr. I have 9 weeks to go today. Just the riba and pegasis now. No riba rash but I had some severe depression settle in last week. Luckily I found a great psy. and it's under control. I thought when I started the treatment I'd be one of the lucky ones that wouldn't have the sx. That's why I started. I'm glad it's only 24 weeks. If I had to be on this stuff for 48 weeks I just wouldn't be able to do it. I went into treatment strong and positive, but the Incivik really kicked my butt and knocked the wind out of me. I'm grateful, but so ready to be done. Counting the days.

thx everyone, think I'll nix Incevik.   Malcolm you're a walking composium (sp) of HCV info and arming myself w/knowledge gives me strength.  please, my notes indicate Victrelis is protease antiviral of boceprevir.   Telaprevir appears to be same antiviral class however tx time less (which my explain SVR lesser rate) although total tx time (Peg&Riba) is same (48wk).   see Janssen will do trial w/simeprevir + Pega&Riba but only 12wk and previously you stated 1a should avoid short tx.    I assume 12wk is short, 24wk tx sufficient (per ongoing trials)      btw  it appears there be one hepatologist here (3private hospitals - govt hosp are disasters), I spoke to hepa and he isn't interested.   if I meet with gastro and don't get warm fuzzy I'll start a new thread asking folks where in USA I should move to.

Incivek rashes are documented in numerous places on the internet. All you have to do is type "Incivek rash" in a search engine for lots of information. They can be light to very severe extremes. I had some form of rash myself throughout treatment with Incivek. It was controllable but that was just mine. I don't seem to have much rash with dual Peg and Riba tx.  Some people develop rashes from allergy's or reactions to drugs and not just these drugs.

From the sounds of your post I'd have to agree with what mallani said below "I'd choose Victrelis over Incivek".

If it was up to me, I'd choose Victrelis over Incivek. I'd also look for an Hepatologist experienced in HCV treatment, as the Sx need careful attention for some patients. Good luck.

Read from ION 3 forum "erythema nodosum is probably from ribavirin" and also that patients tx with INCIVEK 53% develop BAD rash 3% discontinue due to rash.  I'm tx naïve but debilitating Erythromelalgia, most likely from HCV Cyoglobulinemia  neuropathy complications.  Unable to stand/walk for 20min, feet constant angry red & sting, hands purple, chest red (tot 10% body constant red).   Doc's first thought problem was eczema/psoriasis.  Am no longer able to wait until newest drugs available but wonder should I avoid Incivek if I'm predisposed to skin rash.  Understand Riba will not be good to me but that can't be avoided.   August 9 apt with gastro and I want to lead him as best I can, will be his first HCV patient.

Treatment is always something between you and your doctor. Sometimes there are specific conditions and reasons a doctor chooses a particular treatment regimen. My doc didn't like the side effects from Incivek, citing the skin rash and anal conditions from it. He chose for me and started my triple therapy using Victrelis. The length of treatment with Incivek is shorter depending on the length of treatment. I believe Incivek is taken a total of 12 weeks and Victrelis is taken the entire treatment period with some modifications. I've been taking the Vic for several weeks already and haven't experienced any of the rashes. The Vic tends to cause more anemia and fatigue. There's a trade off for everything I guess! Good luck!

i forgot to mention that there is also a high fat intake requirement when taking the Incivek. I believe you must eat at least 20 grams of fat with each dose. Not so with Victrelis, they recommend taking with food but that's any food. I'm sure you'll get additional comments about this.
