Leave the blood pressure monitoring up to the Oncologist, and don't go to a GP for adjustment of BP medication. Take Tom's BP at home, and it's only a concern where there is a large rise in pressure. e.g. if it's normally 159/90, seek attention if it rises to something like 200/120 or above. Sorry I mentioned it, you've got enough on your plate. Cheers.

Thank you all for the kind words!!! Guess all I want to hear is that he is going to be ok. Will keep you all posted...@mallini, I am concerned about his blood pressure as he is on blood pressure medication. We have a machine at home which he takes his pressure on daily. I told him he really should go to his GP to see if he wants to adjust his medication. It is running a little high, but not too bad.

I think you are very brave Laura to cope with all the stress on your shoulders. I hope you and Tom get through this with good results. It can't be easy to deal with both Hep C and cancer. I wish you both all the best and a healthy future!

Hi Laura,
Good to hear Tom's coping well with the Nexavar. The main side effects are rash and raised blood pressure, but decreased platelets are also common. Good luck with the CT, and maybe Tom can start work on the HCV part ASAP. Let us know the CT results and we're thinking of you. Cheers.

Hi Laura! It`s great to hear that Tom`s chemo treatment is going well, and his WBC are holding up. Any good news you get must be so welcome during this trying time. It sounds like Tom`s having the best medical attention and you`re getting through this together. He`s a lucky man to have you by his side and I`m sure he realises that.
I wish you both all the best of luck with Tom`s liver scan next month, that will be the next milestone.
Do your best to keep your chin up, and keep us updated on his progress. Take care.
ps - I can`t help you with your question about nexavar, but maybe someone else will be able to comment.

Hey all, Tom started his oral chemotherapy and so far has minimal side effects. That makes me very happy, although he is extremely tired. He went for his two week oncology blood work and showed his platelets dipped a bit but WBC were good. That was great news. We go back to Mt Sinai on 9/19 for his first three month CT liver scan. Praying everything still looks good and no return of any tumour. I beleive if this one shows nothing it will help put my mind at ease a bit. Been a bit of rough month for me, but overall trying to think positive thoughts. Has anyone been diagnosed with liver cancer and treated with nexavar? If so, any advise? Still lurking around the site and checking on everyones accomplishments...keep up the good work , hopefully everyone will reach success in beating the poison. All the best. Laura

Hi all,
Had our appointments with the oncologist and Tom starts his oral chemotherapy tomorrow. It is two pills twice a day which the doctor reports has had good results with liver cancer. The dose is 400 mg to start and they will see how he tolerates the treatment. don't like the fact he is calling it chronic liver cancer. He reports because of the diagnoses he may need to continue these treatments for the rest of his life. He is ready to begin and halfway decent spirits. It is still breaking my heart to see him have to go thru all of this, and we have our arguments as I am the care giver so I take the brunt of all the outbursts. Today he is taking another stress test to determine whether he needs another stent. That is the least of our issues now. Will write again to report how the treatment is going. We are hoping for minimal side effects. We didn't ask, but will, does anyone know if this oral treatment may actually in turn, help his hep c, or at least temporarily slow it down? Next step is CT scan Sept 19th to check to be sure tumour didn't return. Praying it all works well. Thanks for listening..... Laura

Hi Laura, good to hear Tom is about to start his cancer treatment now, it sounds very promising. I don`t know whether the oral medication will help with his Hep C, although you would imagine that once the tumour is gone it will give his liver a chance to do some healing. I`m not a doctor though, so can`t say for sure.
This must be such a stressful time for you both, so just try to go through it day by day, step by step, and keep your faith in his doctor and the treatment. Being a caregiver is never easy and I should think you must feel quite helpless at times watching Tom going through all this. You`re part of this forum, Laura, so use us as a safe place to rant or share anytime you like, you`re always welcome here.
Wishing you both all the best of luck, let`s hope the side effects won`t be too bad for Tom and he tolerates the medication well. Take good care of yourself too, and let us know how it goes. Sending love. x
Good luck Laura, keep us posted.
