I had my Vit D level checked at SOT, at 12 weeks, again at 36 weeks, then at EOT(48 weeks). I ranged from 70 to 80 nmol/ml, which is normal. I did not take any supplements. My doc has never had a problem with low Vit D levels in thousands of patients, but that probably relates to where we live. We have a warm, sunny climate and up to 90% of our Vit D requirements comes from sunlight. Vit D absorption is impaired in liver failure but I have never heard of it being caused by HCV Rx. Your levels are certainly low- get some sun! Cheers.

Hi Malcom,
Oh yes I know you have lot of sunlight in Australia ! But I did get sun rays while in Spain, and here in Paris it's very sunny right now. However French Health Department is complening about French people having low vitamine D amount.
I will ask for the vitamin D injection next week, should do faster than by drinking that oily stuff.
But I will have to find out what is going on any way.
Thanks for the advice Malcom :)

Hi Ivan,
In fact, I had been given vit D (an ampoule by month) a month before the treatment and I was to get it for two more months. But the first one got me sick for few days (the liquid inside the ampoule was very oily, felt like vomiting, could not eat) and my doc said to stop it, as long as I had the first one, and we will see after the end of treatment. She did not seems to beleive that it would get worth, helas it did.
Also as I have been UND for 10 weeks, I do not understand why it seems to keep getting lower.
Thanks Ivan for the info :)

Hi all,
I have been informed this morning that my vitamine D amount, already low before the treatment (21) has dramatically dropt down to 8 at end of treatment (12 week).
Does any one had the same problem, and do you think it's the treatment or else ?
Thanks a lot,
Do

HCV tends to inhibit vit D absorption. HCV carriers should be taking Vitamin D unless contradiction. don't have info how/why treatment affects D other than you should have been using vit D during tx unless contradiction.
Of course never take/do anything w/out first getting permission from doc. of course
