Hi sw,
No, I certainly did not have any ascites or jaundice. My cirrhosis is well compensated and ascites or jaundice would be a very bad sign for me!!
As I said, there are many causes for 'yellow' eyes. Jaundice is most common, but very few HepC patients ever suffer from jaundice ( because few ever have signs of the acute HepC phase). Jaundice in HepC is a sign of end-stage liver disease.
It would be extremely rare to go from Fibrosis Stage F1 to F4 (cirrhosis) in 6 years. It took me 18 years. For a patient with HepC, any alcohol is too much- even a glass of beer. You should have had a blood test, so you can look up the bilirubin and albumin. If these are normal, cirrhosis is unlikely. Relax...............

so does that mean all of the white in your eyes being yellow because like I said there were days when we had the bio did there were some yellowing and he was grade 1 stage 1 back then. (6 or 7 years ago). Correct me if I am wrong but I thought I read where yellowing of the eyes means you have chronic Hep c. I am just asking questions there are no sympthoms that he has chirossis I know he has gained weight not rapidly but over 3 or 4 months. I am grasping at straws just trying to find out as much info as possible.

Hi sw,
Ascites is fluid in the peritoneal cavity of the abdomen. It is internal and surrounds the small bowel and causes a bloated feeling. There are many causes but with HepC, it is a late sign of liver failure. It is due to accumulation of fluid due to portal hypertension and decreased albumin in the blood. Again, these are only found in end stage liver disease.
Yellow eyes (by that I mean the whites of the eyes) can be caused by jaundice, which is due to raised bilirubin in the blood. This can be found in any kind of acute hepatitis, but in chronic HepC it is a sign of liver failure.
A simple blood test will tell the bilirubin and albumin levels. Cheers.

Ascites or is it fat in the stomach area I read that yellow in the eyes can mean Cirrhosis my husband has had yellowing in his eyes had biopsy done in 06 since he had hep c also can a person go from stage 1 grade 1 to having Cirrhosis in 6 years. And what is considered to be a large comsumption of alcohol? there is no pain in the stomach area or no dark urine. I did talk to a doctor and we have made an appointment after 6 years. However, I am a scared wife what will I do if he has progressed how will I feel or how will I handle it? so many questions. I love this man and really dont want to live without him. we did the meds in 06 and he was a non responder. I have prayed everyday for there would be a better med and now they have it but I am so scared of what we will find out.
where does one go from having Cirrhosis with treatments?

Hi sw, it`s very easy to scare yourself with things you read on the internet so please don`t jump to conclusions! The most important thing right now is that you and your husband will be seeing a doctor who will arrange all the necessary tests to find out how far the Hep C has progressed since his last attempt at treatment, and what state his liver is in now. As Malcolm said, the rate of progression to cirrhosis is usually pretty slow and it seems most unlikely that it would have developed over such a short time span.
I know how worried you must be, but try to stay calm and take things step at a time, you and your husband are doing exactly the right thing by taking medical advice again. We`re here for you, you`re not alone!
