Usually a full hep c panel during labs will show how the albumin & bilirubin levels are
with the hep c, I had a bx in 2000 and haven't had one since, basically if he has a lab
workup done at least once a year after the bx, they will be able to measure the
deterioration to the liver if cirrhosis is present, if only seeing a primary it may be
wise to schedule with a gastroenterologist to monitor the labs, the liver will continue
to become more damaged until the virus is cleared.
I myself didn't find that I had hep c until nearly twenty years later and just today began
the first test on my way to being placed on donor list for transplant due to cirrhosis caused
by the virus.
Good Luck

Hi sw,
We're not getting very far, are we. You still haven't given us hubby's GGT, Bilirubin and Albumin. As I said previously, these are part of the LFT's which you obviously had done. Hubby has chronic HCV, was A1F1 6 years ago, and needs treatment. Why haven't you asked for a referral to an experienced Hepatologist? Personally I would demand a biopsy to assess the extent of liver damage, and decide on Rx after that. With your concerns about jaundice and ascites (from previous posts), I would have thought you wanted some answers. We now know he's Geno 1, but is it 1a or 1b, and what is his VL (Viral Load). Sorry to be so blunt. Cheers.

Well, those are the tests you need have done. I see he had a biopsy 6 years ago. Looks like his liver was fairly healthy back then. A-1/F-1 (if I interpreted that right) is pretty decent. I don't know why it was necessary to even treat him at that point. If it was up to me I would ask for another biopsy now. That's the only way you're going to have proof of the current liver inflammation and fibrosis levels. That is what truly determines the immediate need for treatment (or not).

Ok so since my husband is not seeing a specialist now ur doctor is going to run some more test to see where he stands with this disease so can yall tell me what kind of test he needs to run so I can take my list when we go to see the doctor? We ran the AST/ALT which were 27 and 34 on 9/4/13. If these test come back and there is a problem then we will go to a specialist. I know it is better to see a specialsit but hey I will take this right now

If he hasn't had any tests done at all then the list can be lengthy. Some people encourage genetic tests to determine how the patient will react to Interferon, and is probably a good idea. I'll find that information for you but someone will probably beat me to it. As far as the other tests, there is the CBC w/differential, Chem Profile (LFT'S), TSH (Thyroid), HCV RNA Quantitative Real Time PCR (Will show the viral load). That is typical of the tests required to establish a baseline understanding of your husband's blood work.

The genetic test I mentioned is for the "IL28B Gene" http://www.treatmentactiongroup.org/hcv/factsheets/il28b
Another test you need if you don't already know is the HCV Genotype
