Anyone have suggestions for the awful itching? I have tried lotions, creams, cool showers and antihistamines and still scratch myself raw in my sleep:(
Here is what I did about not scratching: Cut my nails completely off and wore cotton gloves to bed. Sometimes during the day I wore them also. If the urge to scratch became overwhelming I would rub but not scratch and just a little bit.
Light cotton gloves work best. The kind spas use for hand softening/moisturizing treatments.

I used gold bond. The sun and heat made me break out with a rash. I was on riba peg and incivek. Try to stay cool at night. Most of all try to NOT SCRATCH it will make it worse, way worse. After a while it went away if you scratch it won't go away. You might get some meds from your Doctor. Tig summed it up well.

Even the hot days cause me to itch, sunlight drives me wild. I use zinc oxide, stay out of the sun, use coconut oil. Scratching only makes it itch more, made a deal with myself not to even start that. I am on Solvaldi and Olysio not nearly as bad itching as when I was on Riba and interferon for a year. Bathing can make it itch more afterwards. Not sure what your treatment drugs are. Did you tell your doctor yet? Good luck, its very frustrating that itching.

You Might start by staying out of sunlight, I can not say this will help or not, but it could.

Ro,
What drug combination on you on? I don't see it mentioned anywhere on your profile. Add that to your signature line when you get a chance. Riba and Olysio can cause this, especially Riba. You mentioned taking an antihistamine, which one? I had really good luck with Zyrtec (Certrizine) and Benadryl. You can get both of them over the counter. Of course let your doctor know right away and they might be able to get you something even stronger. Avoid taking hot showers, even warm showers can aggravate it. Limit your showering to every two to three days if possible, water can make it itch worse sometimes. Be careful what you wear, keep your clothing loose fitting and wear cotton, avoid nylon and tight fitting clothes. As far as creams, the ones generally recommended with approval are triamnicolone and hydrocortisone OTC .5 - 1% strength. Another thing that helped me was either Calamine or Caladryl lotions. Caladryl is a combination of calamine and benadryl, it works pretty well. I know telling you to not scratch sounds silly, but please, please do your best to not scratch!! Doing so will make it so much worse and will cause it to spread fast. Keep your home cool and avoid sweating. These are the things that helped me and if I can think of any other ideas, I'll let you know. I'm sure there will be other tips coming your way shortly. Hang in there!!
