I took my shot on Thursday, no special reason though. I didn't have to work while I went through Tx (treatment) so I had it a lot easier than you working people! Typically, as you discovered, the first 24 hours after the injection can be the hardest. I can't say how it will go for you, but some adapt better to the SFX (side effects) as time goes on. I always took it later in the day, so I could go to bed and hopefully sleep off the flu like symptoms, including a low fever. If you notice something like that, you might try some Tylenol or ibuprofen before the shot and it will reduce any of those SFX. 

Its very important to remember that water is your friend while you're taking these drugs. 2-3 extra liters of good water daily, will keep many of the SFX at bay as well as providing the needed hydration during Tx. Eating a good balanced diet is very important as well. I found that eating several smaller meals per day were easier than 2 or 3 big ones. I lost over 50 pounds on Tx, so keep that in mind if you notice the weight dropping off. Nutrition will be an important part of your daily care, so plan for it.

I don't believe that your history of IVDU will have any impact on the outcome. While it may have introduced you to the virus, there won't be any similarities to those experiences. I'm glad you made the choice to change your life and leave that behind. It sounds to me like you've made some very important changes in your life and am very happy for you my friend. Hey Liam,

Having gone through 7 months of an Interferon, Riba and Victrelis protocol, I understand the road that's ahead of you, and it can have some gnarly turns and rough patches. But while it can be tough, it's totally doable. I experienced some anemia that resulted from the  Victrelis. Since you will have Sovaldi as your third drug, I don't think you'll experience quite the anemia as I did and that alone will make it easier. The trial data shows very high rates of SVR for this combo. If you're ready to fight, I think the chances are quite good that SVR will be yours! Let us know what you decide, good luck!

tig you have been sooooo very helpful can I please ask you a few more questions ?1} what should I watch out for or be aware of ? I just wanted to be cured I heard the peg pen treatment would be ruff  but the second week I took my shot Thursday night I was very very tired an achy an about by sunday I was feeling better Monday morn I was good to go for work but did notice a shortness of breath ,I think this week I will take my shot on Friday so I don't miss any work an just stay in bed.the doc wanted me to do the triple combo  because he said in three months I should clear this virus . I just want to be aware of what I should watch out for as a former drug addict I can help people deal with recovery because I have been there jus like the people in this forum my doc hasn't ever takin these drugs so he wouldn't know  TIG again thank you thank you thank you for all your time an help! A recent report from the AASLD provided results from two phase 2 clinical trials, the Proton and Electron studies. Those results while short number were high in SVR results.

"The combination of sofosbuvir plus PEG/RBV has been evaluated in patients with genotype 3 infection. In 2 phase 2 clinical trials, PROTON and ELECTRON, 38 of 39 (97%) treatment-naive patients with genotype 3 infection achieved SVR with sofosbuvir plus PEG (4 to 12 weeks of therapy)/RBV. (Gane, 2013b) For many patients with genotype 3, the adverse effects and increased monitoring requirements of PEG make this less acceptable than the recommended regimen of sofosbuvir plus weight-based RBV."

I have confirmed from my hospital in Pakistan that the medicine will be available for a total price of USD 3000 (approx) for a 24 week course. However, the medicine is only for the Pakistani nationals and one has to prove his identity before registering for the medicine. 

I wish you good luck and hope your government be able to make a deal with Gilead for a discount like Egypt.

 That's definitely a fantastic news for GT-3 patients

The question is when it will be approved and the cost.... unfortunately in UAE, HCV treatment is not covered by insurance for the people with work permit (only UAE nationals are entitled to free treatment).

Yes, it will be available in 60 days. The government hospital is registering the patients and the medicine will be allotted in the order of registration number.

Good luck to you as well. I wish sovaldi becomes available in Australia and other parts of the world soon.

It depends on the person, for some 12 weeks of interferon is very doable, for others not. I did read it is a high percentage of SVR with both. Personally I will go for the 24 weeks of oral only. Good luck with your decision.

You may understand my current mental situation, I want to get rid of this virus ASAP...... That is why I want to adopt the quickest possible method.

Luckily i have a desk job and a supporting boss, but I would prefer to avoid the side effects of Peg-IN.

So I will take the longer but easier route i.e 24 weeks with Sov+RBV and will wait for Sovaldi to become available. I have been told that it will be available within next 60 days. Keeping my fingers crossed.....

 Hi, I am  a geno 3a and have eight weeks left of 24 weeks.  Here are some things i have learned from my experience, yours may be different,

1/ Genotype 3 has a unique characteristic  the others don't have.  The virus itself causes insulin resistance !  This will show up in your blood test as elevated glucose .  and you feel it too. The first two weeks of treatment your VL drops vary quickly, and your sugar goes up just as quick.  The thing is that because of this, the first two weeks are going to be the worse time you have with side effects without Peg=IN ,  and with it you will have bad side effects for 12 weeks or more.  The 24 week Tx may cost more and take longer but on a side effects standpoint, taking the Alt Tx is not advised.  I have been able to work the whole time i have been taking Tx without Peg=IN , with it this would not have happened.  In conclusion your best bet is the 24 week Tx if you can get it ware you are. but if not and you are desperate enough the 12 week tx. would most likely work,

2/ Peg=IN has known long term conditions that are best avoided .  Problems with your vision and teeth for instance.

3/With other complications from other conditions. You are much more able to cope with the non= Peg=IN Tx. 

The Only logical  reason I can think of for the Alt TX. is rationing!  If you only have so many Sovaldi in a remote population and you had to make it go farther in  order to cure everybody.
