How long after finishing Olysio could you go out in the sun?

I used sunscreen when in direct sun but had no problems on a 12 week Solvadi/Olysio regimen. I'm dark to begin with but experienced no problems at all.

Today makes a week on the S/O treatment and so far it does not appear that either my eyes or my skin are sensitive to the sun, that is, not any more sensitive than before I started treatment. I have never used sunscreen and I'm not using it now. I already have a base tan so maybe that has helped me.

Click on your name and go into your profile, then click on Edit Profile in the options on the left side: make the change, then hit save. That should work.

I'm new here, so haven't done a profile. I finished Sovaldi and Olysio 7 weeks ago, and am showing Undetectable. My eyes have been burning, blurry, very sensitive to sunlight, and distance vision is impaired. Just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem. I'm female, 69 years old, and am post liver transplant. And how do I get my name off?

Other than the the ability to burn quickly at first, I had no real problems that I know of with Olysio and being out side,
My eyes were not that bothered that I recall other than the normal blurriness that comes with age and working on a computer all day.
I pretty much didn't focus on it but we had a cool spring and earlier summer so I was wearing jeans and sweatshirts till late June.
But after TX I was right outside and had no problems with burning or rashes or any of that....that was my experience.

Hi Mary,
I have three weeks left on S/O and the strange part is my body is getting use to the meds. When I first began tx, the sun was a major factor and was almost unbearable. In recent days, the photosensitivity hasn't been an issue, even without sunscreen. I definitely agree with everyone else, everyone's different but you might be able to enjoy some sun sooner than you think? Try it in small durations and see how you feel. Good luck!

Hi Mary,
I agree that 3 weeks is probably a safe "guesstimate" on the time from EOT. I spoke with a pharmacist about this and the answer was interesting. In addition to Olysio, you have to remember what other medications you were taking with it. All medications taken for HCV treatment require pregnancy precautions for a minimum of 6 months from EOT. Does that mean you will have all of them floating around for 6 full months? Probably not, but the consideration must be made. If you were on Ribavirin during treatment, it also causes photosensitivity and it does remain in your system up to 6 months. So a safe estimate could be made for 3 weeks to 6 months, but the people I have spoken to have mentioned having no further photosensitivity issues (rashes and sunburn) after a month. There really hasn't been a lot of discussion on these after-effects of treatment, so it's going to be important for people to share this kind of information here and places like it, as well as with your physician. Good luck, and don't forget your sun screen!!!

Hi Mary,
Based on my experience, that sounds like reasonable advice. I think my sun sensitivity was fully resolved at closer to two weeks, but I'm also darkly complected and didn't avoid sunlight entirely while on treatment, either. Everyone's mileage will likely vary on this one. You'll know when you're good to go.

I'm sure folks differ here, but I started getting in the sun for limited periods 10 days after eot without adverse effects.

The pharmacist at Accredo advised me to avoid the sun for at least 3 weeks after ending treatment with Olysio. I'm doing this, but wonder what people on this forum have experienced as far as being able to go out in the sun freely again.
