Thanks, guys. Perhaps, not quite as cool as they sound. I've had a conventional endoscopy before and it was fine. I'll have another, please.
I'm still waiting for someone to invent that scanner Dr. McCoy uses on Star Trek. "Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor not a magician!"

Cons:. Unable to inflate oesophagus. Grading of varices becomes difficult.
. Unable to biopsy.
. Transit time through oesophagus may be rapid.
. Poor at diagnosing portal hypertensive gastropathy.
. May be difficult to swallow.
Pros: None offhand. Cheers.

I've never had one but I don't think I'd go that route as they sometimes can take years to pass through you. i had a conventional endoscopy done 3 months ago and it was over before I knew it begun with no side-effects...but there are risks with everything.

Has anyone here ever had an esophageal capsule endoscopy (you swallow a pill sized camera that takes pictures to detect varices) ? Pros and cons?
