You are also still relatively young and have a lot more living to do too, once you get through this. It's hard for someone not sick to understand what it's like.

Hi LC, Happy Gobble Day. My hosp range is 4.5-11.0. ; and I know 2.9 is alot higher than some peoples. When it gets to the 1s, I'll worry. But With the platelets and the aPTT and PTT and now this bs with smudge cells , Im getting exhausted and to the point I dont want to talk to my friends or family about it, because I dont want to see the what now look on their faces. Hope your doing well , your still young and have alot of liven to do. Michaele

I don't know for sure, but I think smudged cells can be caused by the lab as they are handling your sample.
"However, they can also be seen in degenerating samples; in which case, their origin may not be lymphocytic."
Saw your post on hand sanitizer and meant to share that I use peppermint essential oil mixed in hydrogen peroxide for most of my cleaning, including hand sanitizing. Fill a spray bottle and add about 20 drops of peppermint EO to HP. Takes smells out of laundry too and was used by our great grandmothers to sanitize diapers so you know it's no light weight disinfectant.
Hoping all this crap is behind you and you get your treatment soon.
Happy Thanksgiving! ~ Roo

I know at the screening, mine were only 3.9, and I think the range of 3.50 - 11.10 was considered normal, at least on the test I did. So maybe your not that low. At any rate, I hope they can get the other issues sorted real soon so you can start your meds. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks Tig, I just got the labs from the pre EUS draws . And it said few smudge cells noted on the CBC with Diff . My WBCs are 2.9, so the cirrhosis is causing bone marrow depressening. And the platelets are 92, aPTT and PTT both slightly high, so they did type and cross and had blood ready if needed. I have alot of nasty discolored areas on both arms post EUS.I did wake with a bloody mouth 2 days in a row. But didnt think it was my PTT. But I dont look sick .LOL Well to much info, but I never had smudge cells before so I wondered if it was common in cirrhotics. Mono can cause it, too. Michaele Just when I think its finally time for my SVR , I get approved for Harvoni and tx gets delayed, and its been down hill since. Now if thats KARMA , I must have done something horrible, but Im Thankful I dont have Varices

Hi Michaele,
Thats a new term for me and the only help I can provide is the abundance of info available when I googled "WBC smudge cells". Lots to read and several forum responses. Might be worth researching. Good luck my friend, I hope you get to feeling better soon...

Has anyone had any smudged WBCs on their CBC with Diff? Commom with blood cancers with high WBCs, But we dont have high WBCs. Its when fragile cells break, but is it common for cirrhotics with low counts, caused by marrow failure. MIchaele Happy ThanksGiving Goggle Gobble, Who is that? A turkey gobbler big and fat!
