Mike, you are going to love your viral load results. The Harvoni is serious stuff. Good luck in your tx.

Just looked at my lab orders for tomorrow, no viral load ordered until week 4. Bummed, I really wanted to see what is happening. My PCP has also ordered a nocturnal pulse oximetry WITH oxygen, even though he is a friend, I am really beginning to wonder if his brain isn't starting to go. Mike

Hi Mike,
I`m glad you` ve got some pre-tx lab results now, although I don`t really understand why your doctor thinks you need oxygen with your Hb and Hct levels, although I guess it must be related to the fact that you live at high altitude. Normal Hb levels range between 12.5 to 17.5 g/dL, and Hct is expressed as a percentage range between about 38% to 50%.
Your viral load would have been considered at a medium level and the log number is the same but just expressed in a different form which isn`t used much nowadays. I`m sure you`ll see a big difference when you get the result of your first VL test!
Best of luck with your 2 week results! Keep us posted.
PS- Ok, I`ve done some googling and I see that Hb levels increase with high altitude as part of the acclimatisation process...

I finally received my lab results from just prior to starting on Harvoni, came back with a viral load of 3.4 million IU/ml and a Log IU/ml of 6.5. All of my other lab including LFT's were well within normal. The only thing out of whack was my Hgb/Hct of 17.6/51.8 and even though I live at 9000' my PCP seems to think I need oxygen(which he also knows I won't use), if I can hump around these hills and ski at 10000' I don't think I need any O's. Hope to reach SVR this year, next lab work is tomorrow after 2 weeks on Harvoni we'll see what that shows.
