Great to read your 8 weeks results, the platelet numbers can be a challenge to figure out why they fluctuate. In my case (Around 100 or less) the spleen ( Enlarged Spleen) can cause the platelet count to get smaller. But platelets have a short life as they are replaced primarily from bone marrow. So many factors of health can influence platelets levels that its hard to figure, but most of us have more than enough for good health.

Good morning to you, Roey!
The general advice for anyone who has Hep C or is on treatment is to aim for a healthy and `liver friendly` diet which includes plenty of fruit and vegetables and fresh whole foods cooked from scratch whenever possible. Try to avoid heavily processed fatty and sugary food as much as possible because they are low on nutrition and high in calories and can put a strain on our livers. It`s fine to treat ourselves occasionally with sweets, ice cream and hot dogs now and then as long as they`re not our staple diet! Most of us like to eat junk food occasionally but just bear in mind that everything we eat or drink has to be processed through our livers.
Here are a couple of links which contain dietary advice...
To answer your question about why there`s a time difference on our posts it`s because we have it set at UK standard time (GMT). The reason for that is that the forum has always been UK based since it was started and it still is. You do have the option to change your settings to your own time zone though if you like. Just go to your User Details and find the `Settings` option in your Profile box and you`ll see where you can select the `Date and Time Format` and `Time Zone` settings right at the bottom.
Hope that helps!

good a.m. Cinnamon Girl, I was reading your posts, and you said that once in a while its ok to treat ourselves too some treats. Well Im embarrassed to say that I must really be uneducated with what we can eat and what we should not eat. I only want sweets. That's been me, my entire life. Keep your steak, fish, potatoes etc. And give me a cup of ice cream or a devil dog and I'm . Is there a site for proper nutrition especially when taking Harvoni, that you know of? If would be much appreciated. I want to thank all of the senior MEMBERS for still riding the train with us Newbies. I know it must take time and patience out of your day! But in this life my Grams always said to me, "Rosie, when you give to someone whatever it may be, G D knows, and it comes back double too you.! So again, T Y, and G D Bless All of You!
Also I have another? It is 7:30 A.M. In N.Y.C. How come it says edited at 12:26:31 PM? Just curious, no biggie.

My platelets have also fluctuated while on tx. Count has been as low as 121 and as high as 175. Last labs showed 171 so in general an improvement. Another good sign for me is a drop in bilirubin. Down from 1.2 to .6 both ALT and AST remain at lowest levels in years. Have an appointment this week, will discuss adding Riba again even if for a few months. Haven't seemed to get any energy level back as with S/O tx. It may take time. Thankful to have the opportunity to be rid of this nasty virus.

Im 1/2 way through week 10 , and wondering why platelets jumped from 92 to 172 after 1st week , then started ti drop by week 4 . But they arent so low that I need to worry. Happy to hear everything else has normalizes for you also. ..... Michaele

Hi Michaele!
Good to hear that your blood levels are within normal range. Your platelets are still on the low side but you don`t need worry about them at that level. They often do fluctuate anyway when on treatment.
I`m sure a few sweets hasn`t caused any problems for you liver, don`t worry! And as Tig said, we all deserve a treat now and then when going through tx.
Thanks for stopping with your update and do let us know when you get your viral load results so we can celebrate with you!
You`re doing well, and best of luck with the rest of your treatment!

Michaele,
Your numbers all sound good to me. Even your platelet count is recovering nicely. It shouldn't take long to get everything back on an even keel once you've had time to recover, clear these meds and get your metabolism back on track.
Thats an interesting hypothesis regarding your posture and platelet count. Even though it may not be responsible, I'm a proponent of telling your doctor about your thought on it. You're a medical professional and are certainly able to make contributions that spur thought! It's a way of putting a bug in their mind that will remind them of your conversation in the future.
Hang in there, you're sounding positive and it's only going to get better! Stay in touch...

Hi Tig, good to hear from you , too . All my LFTs are normal , and all the CBC with diff are normal. Everything is normal except the platelets ; they were normal for 6 weeks . But I suppose 131 is better than 92 or 50 . Posture plays a role in profusion of the liver . When I was laying in bed with that fever for weeks the platelets went up . So Im wondering is my poor posture at the PC , may have something to do with blood backing up in the spleen where it plays havoc on the cells. Guess Im grasping at straws. Thanks ... Michaele No fatigue that I didnt already have , but energy has gone up

Hi Michaele,
Good to hear from you! How has your fatigue been? Have they drawn any LFTs recently? Regarding the sweets, so what! Once in a while you have to enjoy something like that. Life is hard enough on Tx, so forgive yourself for indulging, lol! Stay in touch and good luck on your EOT viral load. I have little doubt that it will be undetected!

Hi Everone, just got 8 week labs. Every thing is normal except platelets are low : 92 before starting meds , 10 days after 1st dose they were 172, at 4 weeks 158 ; now at 8 weeks 131 . And that dull pain near liver has returned but it is intermittent. I did eat alot of sweets this past month , maybe the sugar effected my liver. Maybe platelets will go back up as thet have gone up and down in the past. Love and Prayer to all ....... Michaele No viral load to be done until 12 weeks
