Tig, have to be off the Harvoni to start Allopurinol . So 4 more weeks it may be the plan ;)
The Indocin is 25 mg 3 X daily and I only got it for 2 weeks.. I will stop it as soon as I can.. I have not taken any meds since forever, so I get really leary on putting anything in my body that can further hurt my liver.
beginning to feel better..
thanks for your info

Hey Ro,
I'm not surprised, it sure sounded like gout. The Indocin will help quickly. I was prescribed that for the immediate pain and inflammation associated with it. It's a powerful NSAID, so it's continual use can be hard on the liver. I was prescribed Allopurinol to take on a daily basis to keep it in check. You might ask your doctor if the gout returns after the initial relief from the Indocin. How did he write the prescription, daily or as needed? Regardless, you're going to get some relief from the discomfort fairly quickly with it.

It is official: gout put on Indocin .. called Gilead and Curascript to make sure not counteracted with the Harvoni.. told it is ok but no one said anything about my liver.. going to try the meds until some relief.. hoping it will be soon..
Gilead took all kinds of info saying that they will document all symptons developed while on treatment to better enable them to monitor the drugs side effects..
Hard to keep moving when you cannot walk... I am driving my husband crazy being waited on for a change! LOL but it is frustrating..
thanks for letting me rant, again

Hey Ro
Through all the months its seems our body and sometimes noticeable parts of them are waking up from the years of having HCV and its trying to adjust IMO.
I would try to keep moving and get the blood flowing by most any sensible means with proper hydration with daily fresh air and sunshine. ( Take a 30 minuet walk on a path)
Works for me / on my 13th week.

Hi Ro,
When it just affects the big toe, my thought goes to gout too. I suffered with it for quite a while, treating it with stuff like ibuprofen or advil. It didn't really help much. My doctor checked my Uric Acid and it was really elevated. That's one sign that it could be gout. They started me on a drug called Allopurinol and it resolved. I stopped taking it during treatment and the gout didn't return. I think it was a combination of things that happened. A healthier liver and a change in diet. Diet is a big factor with people prone to gout, so you might start there. Do you have a recent Uric Acid level? Let your doc know next time in. Here's some info:
Spoke with liver doctor... They do not believe it is related to Harvoni and told me to see my family doctor... Going at 4:30 today. Cannot believe out of nowhere something else to be concerned about:(
Michaele, so sorry the lab screwed up Hope you are doing ok otherwise!
Fourlocos, glad you are feeling better!
Thanks for your input

Yes I had lower leg cramping and pains that worked into my feet. I had a cramping in foot that radiated when I stepped down wrong on the ball of my foot with shooting nerve pain through the toes. I am happy to say it had to have been treatment related because after about 3 weeks post treatment it went away! So hang in there. Good chance it won't return after treatment. That being said I did consult with the doctor about it and my internist. They did lots of blood work to check my levels and all were normal. Consider doing that to be sure it isn't gout.

Besides all the generalized aches and pains, I am trying to determine if gout is a side effect of Harvoni, but cannot find anything in the literature.
I woke up with severe pain near my great toe that runs along the side of the foot. Weight bearing is extremely difficult. It came out of nowhere. I do not have a history of gout or arthritis. My last labs seemed to be in order...
