My doctor told me to stop the glucosamine/chondroitin during the Incivek portion of my treatment, but allowed me to resume during the peg/riba stage. His explanation was "So many things are contraindicated with this stuff. Let's just be safe". So we were. It was OK, because I was not doing a whole lot of moving around during that time.

Hi Mike:

So, is it ok to take MSM with glucosamine/chondroitin? Or is it gonna create more damage to the liver?

Thanks! hopefully it's not arthritis yet I'm 23! Young people do get it but I'm hoping it's meds and old injuries plus not being at the gym that much (or too much?) But in the future perhaps. or maybe I'm convincing myself it's not there.....:) either way yeah it has been helping me a lot I beleive. thank you all.

God bless,

Mike

Hi Mike:

Yes...I took them (Move Free) during treatment without any problems. It's only shark cartilege so it should affect nothing (except hopefully your arthritis).

MSM -MSM belongs to a family of compounds that are abundant in the food chains of terrestrial and ocean life. This sulfur-containing nutrient is the stable end product of the methyl-S-methane series of compounds that provide bioavailable sulfur to as many as 85% of all living organisms. These compoundsprincipally dimethyl sulfide (DMS)are among the Earths few primary sources for sulfur.

it stands for Methylsulfonylmethane. It's in joint pills with the other two alot.

John William - Interesting my dr. didn't mention that. Thanks.

Krowdog -  thanks awesome man congrats! I heard of that kind of thing before that's cool it happened to you! I'm hoping the same with me, I'm currently UND at 4 weeks and I hope after the interferon is done that pain will subside. For now I'm just kind of taking a shot in the dark and giving this stuff a shot.

God bless,

Mike

Hi Mike.  I got some possibly good news.  But first, I have used Gluco/chon, but never had much good from it.  However,

I had a bad problem with an old knee injury.  I like to rock climb, but over the last few years, my knee got BAD,  Horrible throbbing, stiff, bad limp sometimes.  Would ache for days after even an easy scramble.

Well, first week of triple Inciv. therapy, pain went down. Second and 3d week, swelling went down. Around the 4th week, I did a rock scramble, and...nothing!  No Pain, swelling. Nada. I did a climb just this Sunday (easy) and my knee is perfect.

I have read that Hep c is associated with some arthritis. I believe it.  I have since heard of others who have had joint problems resolve when they cleared the virus.  Obviously other factors like the interferon may exacerbate the swelling, but just maybe, you may not need much Glu/chon soon.

Good luck,

Brad

Hey Mike/Randy,

When I originally started tx in Aug. my Dr. asked what supplements I took, the list included Glucosamine Sulphate & Chhondroitin. I have been on Glucosamine for 15 yrs. The Dr. told the nurse that the only reason that Glucosamine would be of any concern was that it could be considered a mild blood thinner and that with the Pegasus/Ribravirin tx this already presented thinning (clotting) problems to some. Because I had been on it so long they said to continue taking it & monitor any bleeding issues.

Just a comment from what the brain fog allows me to remeber these days!

Go get those 12 wks!! I did my 20 week labs this morning and will hear back by Fri.

Hi Mike,

I was doing the G/C prior to finding out I had hep-c. Initially my family doc at the time noticed my ALT and AST levels were way up, and instead of checking my blood for the virus right then and there, he took me off the G/C as well as Wellbutrin I was taking as an antidepressant. I didn't ask why he thought the G/C was bad at the time.

I'm about five months post tx now and haven't thought one way or another about starting the G/C again but you raise a good point. I do believe they help some but you have to take them regularly for quite awhile. I do know too that everything like that goes through the ol liver so we have to be careful. My wife still takes the G/C and I just checked - don't see any MSM in it, have to google that and see what it is. I'll probably run it by my doc the next time I see him just to be sure.

Glad to hear you're getting back to your old self and feeling better. Keep us posted on the 12 week test and luck to you on that.

Take care,
Randy

Hi I was wondering if anyone took Glucosamine/Chondroitin while on treatment? or is? It is for joint pain. My pill is split Glucosamine Hydrochloride and Chondroitin Sulfate. My doctor said it should be fine but do not take it with the ingredient MSM in it. and I started I'm just wondering if anyone else is taking it and how it seems to be working. The pain is mostly from older injuries probably exacerbated by the treatment. Overall I'm doing fine I actually started working out again so that is really why I'm interested. Old rotator cuff tear and back problem. Treatment is the most important thing in my life but I also am trying to get it moving. (Hoping dr. will call any day to tell me that my 12 week test is UND too). At any rate thank you and God bless. Keep strong people.

Mike
