Lindt Lindor truffles are my rescuers for 20g of fat. Three Lindor truffles give me 18g of fat. Each ball has 6 g. I just have to eat something small for additional fat grams, don't have to eat too much. The ball is small, you don't have to struggle to choke like other things.
I always carry Lindt truffles with me so that I can have fat balls to add to something I eat which doesn't give enough 20g of fat. That works well.
Boiled peanuts or roasted peanuts give good fat grams too. I boil raw peanuts and eat them like snacks. One cup of peanuts in shell give me 13g of fat. I just have to add one chocolate ball and some totilia chips. It works well for me too. I am glad that I found some alternatives because I have no appertize right now. I feel full for whole day. I got tired of many foods. I am struggling with eating right now.

The only thing I can keep going until now for my 6 am dose is a whole milk. I am very happy about that. At 6 am, I drink two cups of milk (16 grams of fat) and two slices of Pencetta (around 4-5 grams of fat) with either one slice of bread or caltaloup/melons or strawberries.

Olive oil didn't work for me. It was horrible that night. I couldn't sleep as I felt so full for whole day even my stomach was empty. I couldn't eat, nor drink after I drank two table spoons of olive oil in the afternoon for 2nd dose and at night for 3rd dose. I couldn't sleep and I called my friend and was told that olive oil coated my stomach and I should eat some crackers so that they can absorb the oil and eat some oranges. I did and Thanks God it worked. I never do it again.

I hope my rescuers would be yours too.

Katie

I have definitely noticed as time goes by (I'm at day 17 now) that there are certain things that are working better for me from my list than others.

I tried just eating protein and fat and found that my stomach couldn't tolerate it.  So I played with my diabetes medications so I could eat some more carbs.

Right now I find eating 5 small meals a day is working best for me.

My go-to's are:

shake with whole fat milk yogurt, coconut milk, coconut oil and frozen berries

2 slices of cheese on a piece of whole grain toast or on crackers

Trader Joe's mini quiches (I don't eat all the crust to cut down on the carbs)

two scrambled eggs with 1 TBSP butter OR 2 hardboiled eggs with 1 TBSP full fay mayo on toast

nut butter (peanut, almond, etc) on graham crackers

I'm still waiting to hear back from my nutritionist, who said she would work on some more options for me.  When I hear back I'll share more ideas with you.

The best things for me were a bagel with peanut butter & a glass of Whole milk Chocolate milk, cheese crackers and glass of whole milke...pretty much anything with a glass of whole milk would work well for me.

With my 6 am dose I just took 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil and went back to bed.  2 pm dose (when at work) was 2 tacos from taqueria truck and 1 tablespoon of olive oil.  10 PM dose was usually a big protein drink followed with some olive oil.  I just could not eat much while on treatment.

I kept a big bottle of olive oil in the kitchen and a smaller bottle in my car.  Sometimes my phone alarm would go off driving across the state.  If worse came to worse, I would just pull over, take some olive oil and down my telaprevir.

My VL was all zeros from week 4 til finishing so the olive oil apparently worked.

Piggles, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the List you posted for fat gram amounts. I gave it Saved for when I start the medicine. Thank you!!! It is so thoughtful of you.

You could get the fat without high sugar counts, but frankly, I don't see how you could be on a low fat diet with this tx.  You will need to consume 20 grams of fat apx every 8 hours, and I would not mess around with that requirement.

However, 60 grams of fat per day is not considered high fat for the average man, so in theory you could limit your fat intakes to only when you take the incivek.

Meeting with a nutritionist would be a very good idea.

So how does one do 20 gs of fat when they are diabetic and suppose to be on a low fat diet?
I just had the gall bladder out, so I'm wondering how to deal with this.

This is excellent information, organized for easy use, and much more imaginative than the mental list I used. I am still so tired of bagels, cream cheese, peanut butter, fruit cake, egg nog (I was in the middle of triple treatment during the holidays), grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches, twinkies, Zingers, Ho-Ho's, etc. And these used to be some of my favorite things.

I hope people will use this list and enjoy the 20g fat meals more than I did.

Alan

Hi all,

I found myself putting together this list for myself, so I thought I would share it here with you too.  I am diabetic so eating things like donuts and ice cream doesn't really work for me, hence my own list.

Just be sure to check the labels on the food you buy to make sure it contains the same amount of fat as mine.

Hope this helps others who are taking Incivek.

  • 6 Tbsp cream cheese on crackers or celery
  • 1/2 c cottage cheese with 1 1/2 Tbsp flax oil
  • 7 oz whole milk yogurt (10g) with 1 Tbsp coconut oil (14 g) OR 3/4 c high fat granola (10 g) OR toast with 1 Tbsp butter (10 g), 1/2 a croissant with 1 tsp butter (10 g), etc.
  • 1/4 to 1/3 c nuts
  • 2 oz sunflower or pumpkin (pepita) seeds
  • 1 avocado
  • 2 1/2 oz hard whole milk cheese
  • 2 hardboiled eggs with 1 Tbsp regular mayonaisse
  • chicken or tuna with 2 Tbsp regular mayonaisse
  • toast, graham crackers or crackers with 2 Tbsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp peanut butter or other nut butter on toast, crackers, graham crackers or celery
  • vegetable juice with 1 1/2 Tbsp olive or flax oil
  • 1 can oil packed sardines
  • 16 oz whole milk
  • 1 can chicken Vienna sausages (plus the broth)
  • 1 nitrate free beef hot dog with 1/2 Tbsp mayo0
  • 4 Costco almond toffee candies (22 g fat, 22 g carbs)
  • 1/2 c ice cream (7 g) with 1/8-1/4 c peanuts or walnuts (13 g)
  • 2 oz potato chips (not reduced fat)
  • a smoothie using a combination of whole milk yogurt, whole milk and/or flax or coconut oil (plus fruit or vanilla extract)

I'm talking to a nutrionist soon and will come back and add any suggestions she has as well.
