I went down to 0.2 Neu. So since insurance wouldn't cover me Neupogen, i obtained it on my own. Was taking one shot weekly. Combined sx from Neupogen+Interferon wasn't that ez (bone ache from Neupogen), but it was bearable. I wish my hepa pushed me for few more shots :/

cheers

Hi Ginny,

My neutophils were low from the get-go, as low as 0.3, for most of 45 weeks. Cant say I can attribute any one side effect to it, had so many. They dont pay for neupogen here so I just stayed away from people! Been almost 6 wks sine EOT and its almost normal bur not quite yet.

Hi Ginny,

I think a lot of people on Rx for Hep C experience this, so try not to worry. Am sure your doctors are keeping a watchful eye on your levels. I am currently neutropenic, i have had mine between .4 and .5 for the last couple of months. if it falls back to where i was, last year June which was .1, then i know there is a laid out protocol for me. I am super cautious because am susceptible to a lot of infections atm. Am sure your doc will advice you accordingly, but in the meantime take good care of yourself.

Best wishes!

Ginny, I also had low white counts and was prescribed Neupogen twice a week. It worked very well and really didn't cause additional SFX. As Bob mentioned, you might notice some achy bones initially but it's quite tolerable. The important thing is, it works and it works fast. My white count returned to safer levels rapidly. Good luck!

Hi Ginny, i was on Neupogen the last couple months of TX. It's no big deal.I took 2 shots a week for awhile then down to 1. It really works well. No side effect of that drug. Just a little sore bones.

Hi Ginny,

Low neutrophils are common during triple Rx, and are mostly due to Interferon. You really don't want to drop your Interferon dose unless absolutely necessary. As Jill said, Neupogen usually brings the level up. Normal range is 1.5-6.5, and mine dropped to 0.7.  They stayed at this level until I finished Rx at 48 weeks, and were back to normal within a month.  Risk of infection increases when they drop below 0.5, so can you let us know your level? Cheers.

Hi Ginny, having a low neutrophil count isn`t that unusual with interferon based treatment and you`re quite a long way into treatment now.

Do you know what your neutrophil lab results are?  If they fall below a certain level then your doctor might want to prescribe `Neupogen` which comes in the form of an injection and acts to stimulate the bone marrow to produce more white blood cells.  Many of our members have needed to use Neupogen at some point during their treatment.  Try not to worry!

Hello,

my last two lab results show that I've got neutropenia.  im in week 17 of 48.  I would be interested in hearing others experiences with this side effect.  Is week some early for this sort of problem?
