Hydrate with ice water or just plain water. It really helps!

You hit the nail on the head with that statement. Because of abdominal pain that accompanies the diarrhea, I have had some doubt as to whether I can complete three months of this. I had gastric bypass surgery about 12 years ago, which I think is compounding my problem. I will feel my Doctor out for something to aid with the discomfort. My wife was routinely given adderall while she was on chemotherapy when she had colon cancer a few years ago.

Sorry, Thorn.  This side effects sucks but it should be resolvable.  Your doc can probably give you something to ease the diarrhea and accompanying pain. Ask right away so you don't have to suffer like this.

That is "IMODIUM". Thanks for clearing that up!

Thom,

I want to ask you about your recommendation for "AMMONIUM".  Are you sure your doctor didn't mean 'IMODIUM"? Be advised that Ammonium is a poison and you do not want to take it. The two sound very similar and Imodium is often suggested for diarrhea, not Ammonium. Please check with your doctor immediately to confirm. Thanks!

Doni- I am in the same situation as you. I spent Sunday and Monday in bed with diarrhea and absolutely crippling abdominal cramps. My Doctor advised me to take ammonium and to eat bananas, apples and dry bread. This morning I am OK bowel wise. I also have a fever hovering around 100 degrees f  for which I was advised to take tylenol.

Hey Doni,

Sorry you're still feeling under the weather, but it sounds like the typical sfx from the treatment drugs. We can't suggest any types of medication, that's something you will need to clear with your doctor. Most will approve Panadol for the fever, aches and pains, but I would request authorization for the Imodium before taking it. It might sound peculiar, but try and eat some oatmeal. It helped me a lot when things got extremely "loose". It acts like a binder and might help you out until you get in touch with your doctor. The first shot is often the hardest on you and hopefully within the first week, your body will adjust to it. Everything you're mentioning is typical of the first week. Hang in there and don't quit! Do your best to contact your doctor for advice.

Tried to contact my doctor but not successful. I'm travelling in remote area, and still suffering from low grade fever and mild diarrhea/loose stools. Can I take imodium to harden my stools? And is it ok to be taking panadol every evening? It has been 3 days since my first pegintron shot and low grade fever won't leave me and is coming off and on.

I was pretty awful n sick from shots until round 3rd-4th (cause i was taking em in round noon in hospital), then i got used to it a bit and they gave me shots to inject myself (read gf) and then i timed it properly to sleepover most of sx. As the time progressed i figured how to crash/fine tun just before first headache/fever chills wave. Yeah, i did get sometimes woken up in mid of nite feeling terrible, but most of times i have managed to sleep it over.

don't give up, not an easy tx, but u can do it ;)

You're both experiencing the unpleasant side effects (SFX) of treatment and they really suck some days. Hang in there and know that some days are worse than others. As time goes on, many of those symptoms/sfx will lessen or get more tolerable. Keep up the fight, you're going to win this fight!

I actually broke down and took my temperature a short time ago after waking from a nap, and it is 98.8 degrees. This is my 3rd day and I also have the other symptoms that you describe as well.

Thanks all for your support. One good thing - my body stopped itching after I started TX. But now I have some vertigo which is very slight, and stomach pain with diarrhea - drinking mineral water and linex probiotic. But overall, I'm enjoying my vacation in mountains :)

I think the fever is from the interferon ramping up your immune system to fight the virus.  So think of it as a good thing.  biggrin

I wouldn't worry about the fever. Its not uncommon to experience a low grade fever and flu like symptoms following those injections. It helps to take them in the evening, along with some Tylenol or ibuprofen. As Scruffy mentioned, the first one can be the most noticeable of the lot to get past, but you will likely experience some form of side effect from them all, in varying degrees of intensity. Try and not stress over it. It seems daunting in the beginning but you will soon learn what to expect and how to handle it. You're going to be fine, hang in there!! Good luck...

Hiya's

The first shot is the worse, its not as bad after the first couple. As you get farther down the tx road the sx from the shots will very but are not as bad as the first. Doni don't use your arm for the shots. I used my stomach either side of my belly button as instructed.

I just had my first shot last night also. I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and my head and chest were hot and I believe that I had a fever but it was gone in the morning.

I'm just as much as a novice as you are, but I expect that people all react differently to the medication and I wouldn't be concerned at this point if I were you, but if you are concerned it wouldn't hurt anything for you to share your concern with your Doctor.
