Hi Nikki

Perhaps i misunderstood - your doc and nurse don't seem to be very 'on the ball' with keeping you informed?

it is just my opinion - a doc has a responsibility to make sure you have ALL information and be quick smart about giving it to you ... docs behaving as though their patients are ignorant and should just do as they're told is all too common and a pet peeve of mine - i could rave on for some time about this but won't as i may have the wrong end of the stick ...

instead i'll look at your wonderful happy and posative feelings in your last post and hope the very VERY best for you through your treatment

and i do so agree with you that there are truely amazing people on this site and bless our luck in finding them every day

Cheers - Cate =))

Gidday Nikki,

Sorry to hear you have had that set-back, so far as when you were going to start, as Heather points out, it really is a waiting game no matter where you are, and while you are disappointed that things have been put off, you'll have no excuse for not being able to get prepared.

I'm not sure if it isn't a strategy that the boffins decided was the best way to be sure people going into tx had developed sufficient patience, because tx does require patience to be able to go through with it full term and finish.

I was due to start tx and got myself all gee'd up, went into the clinic for my first shot, which is the norm, only to be told that the doctors had decided that because I had been a fairly heavy drinker, that instead of starting tx, they'd like me to come back the next week and have a liver biopsy.  After that it was my heart, then I think a double check on a kidney, until they'd run out of organs and had no alternative but to start me on tx.  As it turned out, I had a lot of trouble with the interferon and had my original 48 week tx, extended to 72 weeks, so in a way that lesson in patience did me a big favour, and probably was one of the things that ensured I finished.

These things happen for a reason, and as I said they like to be sure you are OK and will finish, as these drugs are expensive and heavily funded by governments, so I guess they want to see if they get their moneys worth or something.:)  I think we all complain about how long it takes and ironically when it's time to start we are running around trying to tie up loose ends, and inevitably run out of time before we have to start.:)

I hope the reason for your re-timing is not serious and just procedural, try not to get annoyed about it, that won't help you if you have only just stopped drinking, and that possibly could be what is holding things up, maybe one of the dudes that decides who starts, wants to be sure you are able to quit....who knows but don't crack, hang in there Nikki, we're all backing you and know you can do it.

Hope you are well, and that you use this unwanted but extra time wisely.thumbsup.gif

Cheers,

Brendan.

Hi Nikki,

I imagine that must be really frustrating when you have been led to believe you would start next month.  I would ask them why it is now going to be June?, and/or why they left you to think it would be sooner.

The length of time it takes to treat after diagnosis seems to vary.  Regardless of where you live.  Unfortunately, waiting often seems to go with the territory.

Make the most of the time beforehand (it will possibly fly by) and hopefully your work will be able to accommodate June instead, without too many problems.

Hugs
Heather

Hey all,

I was ready to start tx in April (so I thought) My GI called and said I had to wait 3 months (june) to start treatment. They had me rushing all week to get lab done and eye exam done. I wonder why the change of heart. I was told my lab was fine.  I wasn't told to follow up with them or told to do anything before June. Except no drinking or anything harmful to my liver:) My hubby was just as taken back by the info i got. When we met with her a couple weeks ago,we were not under the impression that there was any conflict of starting tx. She also told us any ovc or prescriptions i need had to go through her. I left the nurse a message about meds. When she called back that's when she told me about June and said The doc said i need to go through my primary doc any meds.

Maybe I missed something?

I feel like I'm getting the run around

I guess I was disappointed. I got mentally prepared and even had everything figured out with work.

Is routine for them to have you wait?

Nikki
