Actually I found Zopiclone to be so effective that I used to cut up the pill 6 ways and even those little itty bitty ones were good enough. I guess you can talk to your doctor again and tell her that you're aware of the risks and will be careful to ration the pills. I found them to be very effective in combating my insomnia.

Hi Mano, my GP was the same - gave me 2 wks only script for Zopiclone and told me to only take them if I really needed them.  (I really needed them!)  I only took half a pill at a time which I found was enough for me.  Insomnia really can be a problem though and with all the other stuff you`re coping with it`s so important.  That`s probably not much help but I do understand.

Hi James, wow, crazy ski dreams sound hectic.  You must wake up feeling exhausted....smile

Hi Lesley, I had a bad time getting off valium too, some years ago.  GP`s used to dish them out like sweets in those days.

Take care Mano and everyone else, Jill xxx

I used it (Ambien), while on Tx. I'm off it now, and I really fall asleep quite easily, and sleep hard lots of crazy ski dreams, yes I dream about skiing frequently....lol. But I know many people that use Benedryl (sp) for a sleep aid, give it a try if it works then no problem. If it doesn't consult with her again.

Sweet dreams,

James

Hi Mano,

I found that I really couldn't sleep much at all on tx, so I went to the Doc for help.  He gave me Zoplicone, which is called Ambien in the US.  It worked fine, but after four days I was feeling the need to double the dose!  I could see where that was going so I went back and he gave me Tamazapam, which is also called Restoril.

Both are controlled drugs and I had to sign special paperwork to pick them up, which means they lead to problems in some people.  (Often Doctors and hospital workers!)   I've never had a sleep problem before, so I assumed it was just from the HCV tx.

I agree with your Doc about the antihistimines and the Somenex, although the two of them together would knock me right out.  I'm supposed to be on the antihistimines right now for my itching, but while I find that they made me sleepy they didn't help at all for the itching, oh well.

I hope the pills work well for you, there is nothing like sleeping well to help keep up a person's spirits!  Take care, tysmile

Hi Mano,

I'm sure your Dr means the best for you but  he/she may not be completely in touch with all the sx of  tx. I know I was the 1st patient undergoing tx with my gp. I never asked for sleepers cos I had a bad time getting off them, & valium, having been prescribed "mothers little helpers" after a bad marriage.

However, I grabbed sleep whenever I could. (because I was on the sick I was able to)

I dont suppose this post is helpful to you at all but I just wanted you to know you re in my thoughts & I feel for you.

Lots Luv Lesleyxx

She says it is highly addictive and definetly not advisable to be for 48 weeks on it. she says maximum 2 weeks. She says she doesn't see the why curing hep C has to involve getting myself addicted to a very powerful substance, when there are alternatives.

i have read about Zopiclone's addictive properties before and to be honest i dont understand why it is so widely prescribed for people on interferon.. GP has decided to put me on anti-histamines and something called Sominex. she also said they should work if not they will not prescribe Zopiclone at the practive, and ill need to get it from the hospital.

People any thoughts?.. i rather be on anti-histamines as well anyone tried this before?
