I'm on week 14 of treatment. I drink whey protein shakes every day. I had never heard or read anything negative about it, but thanks for bringing it up. I ill ask my Hepatologist (who has specialized in HepC research for 20 years).

I can tell you that since about week 4, my liver enzymes and all test results have been within normal limits, so it doesn't seem to be skewing anything that  I can see, but obviously that's just anecdotal info and not very useful to you. I have stayed the same weight for the 14 weeks, so I feel like it is helping me keep my muscle mass and energy levels.

Regards,

David

Hi, I also read about L-Glutamine is good for liver. I used to take milk thistle, it did really work as lowering my liver enzyme. maybe you know that Milk Thistle is not easily soluble in water that means not every milk thistle brand works very well. you should find a brand speacially it says water soluable formula.

I don't know the other ingrideints. it is all depends how much do you need and how much level those ingriedients already in your body. maybe your body has enough amount that and you will take extra and may be harm your liver. If I were you I would go full blood test and find out what do you really need.

Wow. It sounds like we're using a lot of the same things. I'm gonna see what I can find. I did drop the milk thistle when I started tx and the green powder I put in my whey shakes has some milk thistle. Geez. Sometimes it's so confusing. keep us posted. Congrats on your energy level and good lab work! You're doing a lot of things right. Karen :)

This is my first post and the reason I am posting is I'm concerned with some supplements I take or plan on taking and if they'll effect me negatively.

First some backgound might be in order. I have had HepC for at least 10 years and I've only had my levels checked twice, the last being about 2 years ago. Both times implied that the virus was not actively effecting my liver and the numbers were good. For about the past year I've been prescribed 90 5 mg percocets monthly for a knee injury. I know the tylenol isn't a good thing to have that routinely but it is what it is. I have been taking 1000 mg of Milk thistle for a little while now.

I take the Milk Thistle before bed because some reading showed that if taken before the percocet it could make it react stronger which I'm not after and also that it makes the tylenol more damaging (or can).

I have recently began trying to get back into shape and working out 6 days a week. I I have even managed to make some slight improvements to my knee. I'm taking it very seriously and for the effort I'm putting out there supplemenmts eemed the logical next step. I was taking Whey protein and then started reading that it could damage your liver so I cut it back quite a bit. Then I was starting to take creatine and read that too could hurt the liver so I stopped. I now have something called Xtend that you take during workouts. I took it today and it was amazing but upon further reading it looks like some of the ingredients could hurt your liver.

The ingredients are

L-Leucine3500mg
L-Glutamine2500mg
L-Isoleucine1750mg
L-Valine1750mg
Citrulline Malate (1:1)1000mg

Does anyone know anything about these and if they are something to avoid or if they should be ok? They really did help with todays workout and I would like to continue but obviously my liver is the bigger concern. I really don't know where else to ask this because all I get is bodybuilders telling me that anything negative is all BS and it's fine. They don't have the concerns we do so hopefully this community will have some answers for me.

Thanks.
