I'll see if I can find what I had read before.  I had also mentioned it to my Gastro dr. and he had just been to a conference where they talked about it. He was very encouraged and they were convienced that there is something to it.

I think it is called a IL-28B genotype status test.

This is a pretty good (and long) article:

Thanks for posting that I never heard of that before. Interesting stuff. Science is ridiculous, in a good way. God bless Mike

Yes Becca I`m sure I`ve read that too, somewhere!

Iris, there`s a bit about the test in the link I gave you - scroll down to `Testing for IL-28B`.  By the sounds of it, the test is still very expensive so not covered by most insurance companies, and therefore not widely used at present.  Who knows what the future may bring though?

Love, Jill xx

I have read that if you are CC type that your chances of successful tx are greatly increased.  If I remember correctly, they are doing clinical trials on CC types to see if 12 weeks total treatment with Incivek will cure the Hep C.  Things are looking promising because it may now be possible to customized based on your CC, CT, or TT type.

It could make a difference to some people as to whether they decide to treat or not based on the length of tx and their chances of success !  I know I read about this on the internet somewhere.

Hi Iris, it refers to person`s genetic make-up, rather than that of the Hep C virus, and can be an indication of how well someone will respond to tx.

Here`s a link that explains it, scroll down to the section headed `IL-28B Genotypes` -

http://www.hepatitis-central.com/mt/archives/2010/12/differentiating.html

Hope that helps!

Take care, love from Jill xx
