Thanks for the support in dentist search. I think I have found one; had my first appt this week and the diagnosis wasn't as horrific as my mind created. And very affordable. Thanks again.

Thanks for the helpful post. I am using a Saliva Substitute; toothpaste is a problem. Most comm'l toothpastes are Mint flavored-- the mint kills me, when it touches the sores. Fire. I did find a non-mint paste made by synsedine (sp). Question, why the reduction in carbohydrates. Is there a relation to dental health?

i'm sure dentists have seen everything, and they are not going to turn you away because of a few sores and bleeding gums. if everyone had perfect dental hygiene, dentists wouldn't be in business. i would just be honest with everything going on with you when you fill out your initial paper work.

Hiya Alex.

My hats off to you for hangin' in there!

You know, the only thought I had was that you might try a dental school.  Many large cities have dental colleges that do dental work for little or no charge.  These are students who are in their final years, and are very closely supervised.  Because your case might present some unique circumstances, it might be deemed a perfect.  Might give it a shot.

One last thing.  It seems dry mouth is a big cause of oral problems.  My dental problems were minor. here are a few things I did:

Drank tons of water; used a high flouride prescription toothpaste; reduced my carbs, and used Biotene hydrating mouthwash a few times a night (when I was getting up to pee because of all the water!)

Also, do a search on the mouth sores + Hep C Treatment.  I remember seeing lots of suggestions. I believe Hep C Advocate was one of  the places that had info.

Good luck Alex, you're gettin' close to the end.

Brad

Not sure if this will help but the standard, age old practise of gargling with warm salt water is still recommended by dentists for sore and bleeding gums.

Most dentists nowadays are prepared for patients with transmittable diseases. When I started with my present dentist about 6 years ago I informed them on the medical questionnaire of my HCV. No problem.

I am now in my 8th month of tx (ribaviren, interferon & boceprevir); it has been hell with rashes, open sores, eye fatigue, SOB, etc but now comes a real problem. My Gums are bleeding & teeth are breaking not mention turning dark brown. Sores on my lips hinder some mouth hygiene but I still brush 2/3 times a day & try to floss once p/day.

My long term dentist, 35+ yrs, recently lost his license to practice (reasons other than competence or honesty) & my insuranse does Not cover dental. I have always paid cash for dental.

How do I begin a search for a new dentist in this condition, I still have open, bleeding sores on my lips & bleeding gums. I know that if I were a dentist I wouldn't want me sitting in their waiting room. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
