After getting the results back on my biopsy, I have pretty much decided to wait.  I don't think that I will have to wait too long for an interferon-free tx either.  wink

Hi David.

I totally agree with JIme (Jim) and Mallani.

The biopsy is still the most accurate guage of liver damage.  If you get one, and it shows little damage, personally I'd wait.

Also, as was mentioned, this disease usually moves slowly.  I had my Hep C for almost 30 years, and was only a 2 (on a 0 to 4  damage scale).

When I started Tx (treatment), these newer drugs, like PS 7977, were not as far along in development. These drugs appear to be very effective, and without the use of interferon, have a lot less side effects.  Many expect them to be available within a couple of years.

Anyway, try not to sweat it. Take your time, and get informed.

Best wishes,

Brad

Hi David, Thanks for posting your results. You obviously have found a doctor, so should be able to get information from him/her. Your Viral Load is quite high, and your blood counts and LFT's are normal. The fact you were tested for Hep B and C with normal LFT's, makes me think you probably suspect how you acquired HCV. That is not our concern. You don't mention where you live so we cannot give you any suggestions as to what treatments may be available. You may decide to wait for the newer treatments as you are young and unlikely to have significant liver damage.

Welcome David. Here my 2 cents.

Gather all the info you can. Then get a biopsy.

Biopsy = informed decision

If you are Stage 2 or less I would wait till the new drugs are approved. Hep C moves slow.  You are young and have time.

Good luck.

Welcome DavidC,

In response to your question as to whether or not to start treatment, doctors have a lot of experience in treating HVC. And, today the options of drug choices are so vast and expensive, that if given the privilege to get the virus out of your body, why not take it.

I too was deathly afraid of the side effects...but so far they have been mild to none, all manageable.

Plus this forum is a great place to find support for just about any question you might have.

Best of luck.

Hello,

I am new to forum. I am shocked and depressed also by HCV news. And it is really hard to find a doctor. I dont know if I am allowed to post test results and if someone can help me with it.

I want to find out if I a chronically C and I want to detect approxim, atly when I am infected

Thanks

Glad to hear you've found a doctor and my advice would be to discuss all your concerns with them and then you can make an informed decision about whether or not you wish to treat.

PS Have moved this to General Discussion
