Hi Malcolm,

i am afraid that Sofosbuvir, cause of Gilead's big spending fever to buy Pharmasset and development will indeed cost a fortune ;/ i presume somewhere 3month worth of pills will be between 30-100k $

where are lab heros like Mr.Jonas Salk?

from wiki: His sole focus had been to develop a safe and effective vaccine as rapidly as possible, with no interest in personal profit. When he was asked in a televised interview who owned the patent to the vaccine, Salk replied: "There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?"

they estimate that Mr.Salk could have been 7bil $ richer if he patented his Polio vaccine...he didn't care, yet he got back to lab to work on HIV vaccine until his death...a true hero and inspiration (i won't understand why he didn't received Nobel for it!).

Are we as a whole society eluded just by money chasing these days?

these days when i see and talk to medical students over here, they wanna study medicine, not to help people, yet to get rich...years ago, people studied medicine/pharma over here to try n beat deadly diseases, and in process if they got some professional fame and reckognition, great ;)

most of my phd lab mates after working years in r&d, wanna go to sales...since they barely can survive on grants.

Hi Zlikster,

Remember Incivek (telap) is only taken for 12 weeks wheras Victrelis (Bocep.) is taken for 24 weeks, so you have to double the price. This is about the same as in the USA- Insurance Cos tend to prefer Victrelis because it's a bit cheaper and the SVR rates are similar. Sofosbuvir will cost a fortune- Gilead have $11 billion to recoup! Cheers.

Found online (UK prices) that Telaprevir (2,250mg daily) is 22.400 GBP 12 week cost, Boceprevir (2,400mg daily) is 8.400 GBP 12 week cost. Why such price difference? I can't find any hints how much Sofosbuvir will cost, but i presume it will be in price range of Telaprevir? I am trying to figure out how much 12 week aprox cost of Sofosbuvir will be in USA (could be 30k> $), since if i fail my riba+int therapy, i do intend to save money to buy meds in USA (since they will be available in my country in 20 years from now seems so).
