Hehehe I guess the knocking out bit takes longer than the biospsy, so they skip that stage. They just use a scan take a bit and wheel you off back to watch T.V in your room for 4 hours. My husband told me this evening, aghhhh looked a peice of cake, i'd do it. So easy for him to say since he doesn't have to lol!

Thanks folks, I couldn't have sat through 5 samples, you brave thing Matt. In all fairness it was pretty fast over, they don't give pain killers or sedation, but he did numb as deep as he could. He admitted it would hurt so I sucked it up, closed my eyes and nearly broke my husbands hand lol. I hate needles too Zlikster, I started shaking after the procedure when I saw the huge needle, they were worried something was wrong, I was just pathetic. :D

Hey Loopy

Nice to hear you remembered the procedure, I guess were not the only ones.

I also have the memory of the needle and it's gush into me feeling, not a pleasant  memory.

For some reason they had to take five samples, I hate just the thought.

Anyway , sorry for the memory but time heals all wounds.

For you it's up and onward.

Matt

I am happy to say I lived through the biopsy. It is a little painful during and after, I felt that needle even after the numbing injection, but didn't have pain from my liver when he took a click on his gun. It is unpleasent but nothing unbearable. I can't say I would want to repeat it though. I have very low blood pressure so I have strict instructions to up my salt intake. I feel like a budgy that has to have a salt lick (I don't like the taste!) Oh well, on the upside my husband was allowed to sit with me and hold my hand. :D

Ekkk, sounds a real joy in Bosnia! :O

I don't want to do it, but I will take it as part and par of treatment. Blah, would rather eat ice-cream and sun bathe. Oh well, one day it will be a distant memory! ;)

i would have done it definetly (liver biopsy), i only had a "small issue" @ my hospital (hepatology) where mistakes do happen more often lately with overstretched/overloaded doctors (thats what my doc said to me too!), so i opted in for next best thing to avoid it: FibroScan and FibroTest...and it was enough for comision to decide am i eligible for therapy. In a normal country with a normal health care it shouldn't be any issue

best

I am feeling a lot better after reading all your "real life experiences." I'll suck it up and stop being a baby. I'll ask them not to show me the equipment and I am sure I'll be fine. Damn imagination likes to go on overdrive occassionally. Thanks :*

There is nothing to worry about. Really. I had 3 of those. You can ask for a sedative injection to feel cool. Its a routine procedure.
You can experience some shoulder pain afterwards for which you gonna get a pain killer.
Geen zorgen ... Good luck!

Hi Loopy,

I Like that name lol,

As Joanne says it's the most accurate way to see the condition of your liver. And it's important for all Tx and what meds you may take for other ailments as well.   Sorry but is one of those necessary evils.  In USA they do guided biopsy CT scan or ultrasound ( they look inside to be sure where they get the sample will be an accurate reading of damage if any ) heres one link but there are many more They will numb the area so shouldn't hurt. A little sore maybe but they can offer pain med or tylenol. Your tuff enough to accept what you have and deal with it and that's even scarier that most of what we we go through. You'll do fine.  Hope everything go's well for you.

Bills

You'll have to paste this

can anyone help me to figure out how to make this an actual link in stad of having to paste it?LOL

Hahaha thank you Bill, I can be an imp with people, all good fun though.

We too have a guided biopsy, but it is the only thing that has made actually go OPPS!

Having a disease that I never even noticed isn't really that scary to me, knowing it can be treated puts everything in perspective. I know if one thing doesn't work there is an army of meds on it's way. Ok, I don't like the fact I am contagious, but there are a lot worse things to have.

The sun is out and we enjoyed the garden. I hope you all had a lovely Sunday!

PS: Thank you everyone x

Hey Loopy

Had the same procedure a few months back, it's a lot more mental that physical.

Hopefully you have a great hospital and staff, it makes the whole episode better.

Anyway all the best.  One thought, talk to the doctor ask him to explain what he is going to do. It might relax you.

Matt

I am getting increasingly nervous about the liver biopsy, I am pretty scared actually, so much so I am losing sleep over it. Is my imagination much worse than the actual event???

There is nothing to it in my opinion. Except going to surgery room
All draped up, being put under etc... Yes it's scary so I put
My fear In Gods hands. Let Him handle it.
 U won't feel a thing.
I have had two. Look at the bright side,
It gives the most accurate evaluation of your liver.
Stand tall you can do this without mentally torturing yourself.
U will get a world of info from it.
Keep us posted and remember we did it and survived!
Hold your head up high and relax!
