Hi Brendalee,

Values vary slightly from Lab to Lab, but the usual normal levels are: AST- 5 to 40 i.u./l.  ALT- 7-56 i.u./l.  Your levels are high, being x10 normal. This usually indicates some acute inflammation. Patients with little liver damage often have normal levels of AST and ALT and even cirrhotics may have normal levels.  It is quite common to see HCV patients with levels x2 normal. The pattern of chronic HepC varies, and you may be having  an acute episode. A biopsy would certainly be useful. Cheers.

I am curious about these labs, as in what is a really high number.  My doctor had me get a biospy cause my levels were high.  569 and 400. Can I get some input? Thanks
