Sorry to hear about your story about the Denist. Just to clariy, what was the time between your exstractions and your first test for HCV?

The members highlighted all the important points, I would guess that there is a legal side to all this so make sure you double check all your results and you feel comfortably about them.

Hey,
My husband has the antibody for Hep C
And has no viral load. His body fought it off.
I wasn't so lucky.
I read a few weeks ago about this dentist,
Sorry you were a victum of his neglect.
I think you will be one of those like my husband.
Enjoy those children!

Hi,

Your HCV VL test was reported in Log Units. 2.16 Log Units is equivalent to a Viral Load of 146 i.u./ml. This is very low. This could be due to Lab. error, or as Loopy suggested, you may have cleared the virus yourself, and this is just the leftover from the acute HepC. Get another VL test in 6 months and I'm 99.9% sure it will be undetected, so you can forget about it. You will continue to test +ve to the Antibodies, so you won't be able to donate blood. Sorry to hear about your story. In any case, HepC is now a curable disease for most people, so don't worry. Cheers.

Hi BlessedMommy,

Between 10-40% of people will clear the infection on their own. It is very well possible you were in the acute stage and your body cleared the virus on its own.

We all had an acute stage, but the rest of us went on to develop chronic hep C (our immune systems did not clear the virus).

All being well you will still be clear of the virus after 6 months and can continue to enjoy your new baby and good health.

Hi, all this is new to me.  My story is a little different than others.  I found out that I tested positive for Hep C after a dentist in my area become uder investigation for inproper sterilization among many other things.  I went to this dentist a couple years ago for wisdom teeth removal.  The Health Department provided free screening for Hep a,b,c and HIV due to the potential exposure.  I wasn't worried at all until I got the call.  My screening for Hep C came back positive.  It's been a whirlwind of a week.  Questions like, how could I get this?  I have no other risk factors, never used drugs, etc.  I know for a fact that I was exposed through this dental clinilc.  I had my daughter a few months before I had my wisdom teeth removed and at that time my Hep C test was negative. 

After my screening result came back positive the health department sent it off to have another test done to make sure it was not a false positive.  The result of that test (HCV RNA?) was 2.16.  I was told that this is a very low viral count and translates to 146?  If anyone could help me understand that better I would be greatful.  I immediately scheduled an appointment with my primary care physician and he ran the HCV RNA test again and did blood work to check the health of my liver as well.  To my surpise the HCV RNA test came back not detected this time around and all my liver enzyme levels and whatever else they checked was normal.  How could I have the same test within a three week period and get a not detected result this time around?  My doctor is ordering an even more senstive test to see if we can get an exact viral load number.  I will get those results back in the next couple of days.  He seems to think my body is fighting off or has fought off the virus.

Questions I have at this point....Is treatment necessary or does this just require more viral load tests over time to confirm a not detected result?  Do I need to see a specialists?  My docotr did consult with a GI doctor and he advised my doctor to test me again at one year?  I am terrified.  I am a mother of two percious girls.  I am only 29 years old, how could this be happening to me?

Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks!
