to be honest, i am more worried about long term interferon sx, riba toxicity seems to be gone, as Malcolm said as soon as all rbc are replaced (up to 6 months), on other hand oversaturation with interferon for 6-12months seems can leave some autoimmune or compromised immune sys in the long term.

can't wait for DAA only meds to replace SoC.

best

Hi Matt,

It can take 6 months post treatment to excrete totally from the body. They do not suggest pregnancy before this timeline due to fetal abnormalities occuring. So over a 6 month span people can still experience symtoms usually improving over the months.

Everyone is different in how fast they will excrete any drug, the younger and healthier, the faster this will occur.

Riberviren has been known to make pre excisting illness worse and there is information with the drugs regarding this. But I think it is Interferlon that has been blamed for most long term effects in a small percentage that gets them. Nothing has been ever documented in long term effects of Riberviren as it does not work well in isolation and boosts interferlon ability.

Hi Matt,

Riba remains a mystery. For a drug discovered by accident in 1970, nobody can figure out how it works. It somehow interferes with viral replication, but only some viruses. It works against both DNA and RNA viruses, and was found to be effective against HCV. When it was first approved by the FDA, dosage was unknown. I first took it in a trial in 1997, and from memory was on 3000mg/day. After 9 weeks the trial was stopped as all of us had become extremely anaemic!! In 1998, I tried again, this time with a dose of about 1,400mg/day and managed to finish 6 months of this with the 3x week interferon shots. You did not get a VL then, just a +ve or -ve PCR. I was -ve after 6 weeks and stayed -ve 4 months after EOT. 6 months after EOT I was +ve again. In 2000, the word was that you needed 12 months treatment, not 6 months. I refused to have another try, which was probably a big mistake.

Riba is excreted in the urine. However it is concentrated in RBC's ( which causes the haemolytic anaemia), and after treatment finishes, stays in the body until all RBC's have died and been replaced. This is between 4 and 6 months.

As far as I know, nothing can accelerate this. I also can't find any reference to long-term effects. Cheers, happy researching.

Question: How long is the after effects of Ribavirin take to depart from the body and mind ?

Question: Is their anyway to hasten (speed up) the time it takes to clear the body?

Question: Is their any long term effects of Ribavirin?

Is this drug a mystery or what?
